Is there a secret to getting the free shipping on Amazon without having prime? I tried to order something today and it was $40.00 and it said it qualified for free shipping. When I went to check out, it had charged me $6.99 shipping. Seemed like the only way to get the free shipping was to do a trial 30 day prime. I don't want to have to remember to cancel it as this is the first time I've ordered from there in 2 years and that isn't something I would normally do. I'm not big on online ordering as many of you are. I didn't see anywhere to click on to get the free shipping. Seems to me that if it qualifies it should just be an automatic thing.

Before you click "place order", there should be a page that summarizes your order.  Down the page should have shipping charges for various dates.  Click on the "free shipping" date, which is usually the longest.  On your order summary it should list the shipping charge, then right below that it should have that amount subtracted.

@catter70 If you spend $35.00 (used to be $25.00) and up on most sold by/shipped by Amazon items (not 3rd party sellers, they can charge you shipping) you should get free shipping without paying for prime.

Also, when you're in "checkout" make sure you click on the free shipping option.

This is usually the last option they show you. Amazon will automatically charge you shipping if you aren't paying attention.

@catter70,

I've found that I don't see the shipping charge until I check out or look at cart and if it is a 3rd party seller they can charge shipping. So then unless I really really want it I delete that one.

The same for Walmart too.

Anything else if you order $35 or more shipping is free.

And correct me anyone if I"m wrong but even my daughters say that some things, even with Prime can charge shipping. So over $35 is free for everyone with Amazon sellers. Is that right?

That is why I don't think  Amazon prime is worth it to me.

I don't like to order a lot online either.

But all my kids and I know many here love it and order

most things online. They also can get Prime tv with paying for Prime.

I get free shipping when my order is $35+ for most stuff. Third-party sellers might charge you for their shipping but otherwise $35+ for Amazon orders ship free.

It's a bit tedious to find the free shipping option if you aren't familiar with the checkout page.

There will be various shipping options and dates.  The free shipping will be shown with faster options.  Read carefully.  You must click on the free shipping option.  It is not selected automatically.

I ordered a couple household things on Amazon and don't have prime.  In shippimg it said free and it would be delivered in a couple of days.

Well I got the free shepping, but the items now say Jan 10th.

Go figure.  They seem to do want they want and you have to be patient or not oreder if not satisfied.

Yes, that is the other advise that is so good that many mentioned. Be careful at checkout to chose the free shipping. There are usually 3 options.

Also make sure you don't include their Prime offer free for 30 days. That is easy to miss and have it checked accidently. Though you can always cancel.

I've also found that Amazon changes prices a lot and are not always the best price.

I will never pay for Prime, dont find amazon's prices low enough to warrant constant ordering, but I make my orders $35 and always get free shipping. I have tried the free 30 day trial of Prime, but never stick with it for longer. I do order their gift cards often but they always ship free.

Often things will be delivered sooner than what the email may say.
