A friend had very bad experiences with her apartment complex, she went to yelp to write a review to warn others.....there was a glowing 5 star review...the problem was the review was written for an apartment complex with the same name, but in a DIFFERENT CITY/STATE!!!! She contacted Yelp to remove the review, which they did....But again I hope people read all reviews carefully and use them with a grain of salt!!!
@Spurt, I wrote a 5-star review for a restaurant I adore. Literally every single other review (maybe 20 of them) were also 5-stars - except one. Some creepy trespassing, peeping tom-type dude was walking all over their property peeking in windows, etc. when they were closed and the owners had something to say to him about it. He didn't like that.
He did a 1-star "review" which had nothing to do with the business at all, since he never set foot inside or spoke to the owners about the business itself, only his trespassing.
I reported it and Yelp removed it. Now they have all perfect reviews - which they deserve :-)
I wish TripAdvisor would remove reviews for the wrong place. There are so many I come across and other reviewers point out that the hotel they are reviewing only has 10 floors so your 15th floor room is for a different hotel. And yet it stays.

I'm not a fan of Trip Advisor. I belonged to it for years pre-Yahoo and wrote many reviews. I was moving up the "ladder" that the post-Yahoo site was constantly pestering me for. They started sending me daily emails to review every place I've ever been.
Then I wrote a very long review, which they declined to post because of a single word in it. When I went to simply remove the word, my text had disappeared and there was no way to simply "correct", I would have had to start from scratch. Whether this was by design or just a clunky website, I'd had enough. I closed out my registration/membership with them. I have come to feel it's really going down the toidy since Yahoo bought it. I wouldn'trust its accuracy - they practically bribe and otherwise coerce you to review. It gave me an ewww feeling.

@Moonchilde, interesting comments about Trip Advisor. I use it and take the reviews with a grain of salt. The last hotel Imstayed in got five star reviews. It was full the night we stayed. We were facing a ten hour drive the next day. I found the scent so strong, at 1 am I gott up and went to sleep in our vehicle. We were due to depart at 5 am. No room to move to.
I left a note for the owner. Asked for a full refund. She was good enough to oblige. The scent was lavender. I am not extra sensitive but I found it oppressive. When I got in bed, it was so bad, I woke up after an hour of sleep. I didn't want to disturb DH who was doing all the driving. Yuck. And I like lavender! She used lavender detergent and that is why I was so overpowered when I got between the sheets. She told me people come back just for that. Oh my... LM

@Lilysmom I think TripAdvisor started on a downhill slide as far as reliability once Yahoo took over. It's all about revenue now.
