I need prime for my kids college books- they always tell me at last minute 'I need this/that by Tuesday!'. Usually I'm not in a rush for items. I'm a QVC shopper, I'm used to waiting! Smile

On occasion a book might not have been offered via Prime. Delivery took weeks, college professors are only so patient & understanding!

Wow and I thought college professors were self centered jerks when I was in college! How do they expect you to get books at the last minute?

The professors tell my kids- it's the kids that don't tell ME! {#emotions_dlg.lol} I used to go by the course description on the school web page - but the books listed aren't always accurate.

Rant? I think it's called a discussion!

Yes, it is a discussion. Many of us here have learned a thing or two on these boards.

I'm happy your problem has been settled.

Me too, thanks. And lessons learned- Amazon isn't the be all and end all I once thought it was!

I signed up for the free trial of Amazon Prime. The free trial expires next week and I've already decided I'm going to cancel it. If I'm spending $80.00 to get "free shipping", it's not really free. I'm just paying all the shipping up front.

If I only buy 8 items through Amazon Prime, that's the equivalent of paying $10.00 s/h per item. I guess I don't use Amazon enough to justify the cost of Prime. Not to mention the last several things I ordered from Amazon weren't under Amazon Prime so I had to pay s/h anyhow.

Once my kids finish college- I'm done with prime as well. It's an invaluable source for their college needs.

Prime isn't for everyone. I think that it is really good to do the trial first. We did it three different times before deciding to go with it. The third time was at a time we were ordering lots of stuff. I liked not having to find something in order to get the free shipping and I really liked getting the order in two days. We are also using the streaming, so it's not just the shipping. My son also orders stuff, so I think that we are getting our moneys worth.

But, like I said, it's not for everyone.

Amazon isn't QVC, who will take returns like boots even if you've worn them for a month. If you return used DVDs, books that have obviously been read, or shoes than have been worn, there is a restocking fee:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-2?ie=UTF8&nodeId=901926&qid=1...

============
Partial refunds/Restocking Fees

+ Any unopened media item or non-media item in original condition that is returned more than 30 days after delivery: 80% of item's price.
+ Any book that has obvious signs of use: 50% of item's price.
Any CD, DVD, VHS tape, software, video game, cassette tape, or vinyl record that has been opened (taken out of its plastic wrap): 50% of item's price.
+ Any item that is not in its original condition, is damaged, or is missing parts for reasons not due to our error: up to 50% of item's price

The boots were tried on and put back in the box. Never worn! It was shipped back in the same box Amazon sent to me- all stuffing materials included!!

Amazon heard me- I already got the restocking fee refunded. Smile

So, then, what was the issue? It seems it didn't fall under their fee guidelines.

I don't know what the issue was - they didn't say why they were charging the restocking fee. They just credited the fee once I complained; I sent another email asking their guidelines for restocking fees but I haven't heard back yet.
