I was out with the dogs and had a message on the answering machine when we came back in.  It was from Amazon concerning an order for 700.00 and some odd dollar amount.  If I wanted to cancel, press 1.  Called DH and asked if he placed an order since we use different credit cards and I couldn't look up anything he ordered.  Anyway, he said it was a scam.  If I had pressed 1, they probably would have asked for a credit card number to "cancel."   I don't post often, but read the forums daily. and thought I would post to alert others.

@rmb Big time scam. Just a new variation on the old scams, trying to get the uninformed or gullible to give up their personal info.

My local news had a warning about this on earlier today.  Not only Amazon but also Apple.  Scams for both are rampant right now.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

@rmb, I received this one too recently. It was the same woman that calls and states my Microsoft account is going to be closed, the IRS needs to hear from me to avoid arrest,  oh yes and the electricity is going to be cut off in the hour. LOL.

A friend of mine had a very similar call involving Amazon on two occasions so I tell her to hang up its a scam, but sometimes I get the feeling she's not convinced.

This scam has been widely publicized and was even on NBC Nightly News last night.

I often get those E-mail messages about my Apple account.  I do have a MAC, so I do have an Apple ID account, but I totally ignore the messages.  If someone has charged something to my account, I don't have a CC on file with them.

Recently, I was at the gym and was getting ready to leave and I often speak to the man who oversees the weight room.  He said something about trying to deal with a credit card fraud.  I asked did the Credit Card company call him and he responded no, that it came from Apple.  I explained about the scam and he asked, "so I shouldn't click on this link? It says credit card on file."  No.  I told him if he was concerned about it, to call Apple directly, but not to click on the link.  He was quite grateful.

@rmb  I just got home to listen to my messages, and that was one of them.  Not for the first time!

I rec'd a text message today from a bank indicating a payment was declined and there was a link I was supposed to click to get this matter resolved.  I don't have any dealings at all with that bank and why would someone click a random link?
