Amazon Return Policy?

I found a few gift items I would like to purchase as Christmas gifts from Amazon but if I purchase them now it appears I only have 30 days to return them if they don't work out.  How can you buy gifts with this return policy?  Am I missing something?  I rarely buy from Amazon.
