Amazon Paperwhite and public library ebooks - Rant

I got a Paperwhite this Christmas and to my dismay, you cannot borrow Ebooks from the library in NYC using a iPod Touch. You need a regular computer. What is up with that? If you try to download the book - it will bring you to Amazon one click purchasing as opposed to an icon that says get library book. I got charged and was was new to Amazon and an Ereader. Amazon says at this point there it is not compatible with borrowing books with an iPod touch. They will let the tech dept know as they go forward. I only own an iPod touch. I pay my bills - go on these forums - never encountered a problem until now. Am I the only one?
