I like Prime, as once in a while I need something right away. It's worth the money to me.
And if I order a luxury such as a CD just because I am bored with what's in my car now, it is kind of amazing to receive it within a day or two.

I haven't once missed having Prime since I cancelled. Sorry their minimum went up, but it won't push me back to Prime. For the few items I want, I can pay for shipping and still spend less than a Prime membership.
For the year I had it, I figured out it cost more per item for my orders than those same things would have cost shipping at QVC -and that was before QVC went to some $3 orders!
I get that people who buy a lot and those who stream a lot get value from Amazon, but why should I subsidize those people?

Just in case someone doesn't know, Target also has free shipping. No minimum if you use their red card.
Not two day shipping, though. I get things in about five days or so.

USA Today quoted Amazon in December that they added 3 million Prime members during the 3rd week of December 2015. They also say they have tens of millions of users. So even accounting for people having their kids and spouse on their account, there are a heck of a lot of Prime memberships sold.

@Nicknack wrote:With the movies and shows that you get with Amazon Prime, do you have to have a specific device to watch these with, or can you watch them through Tivo? If I could watch them through my Tivo I think Prime would be worth it for me. I've looked on Amazon and still can't figure this out. I know I could watch the videos on my laptop, but I would rather watch them on TV.
Do you have Broadband Cable or DSL? If so, do you have Wi-Fi access in your home. You will need those to be able to stream Amazon Movies. You will also need a Smart TV or some other type of device to connect to the Amazon Movies. The faster your Internet download speed the better.
I have DSL with a 15mbps speed. Netflix suggest a least a 25mbps download speed to stream 4k movies to my 4k TV, but my 15mbps speed streams their 4k content, with no buffering, just fine to my tv set.
Now this is just a question to you, not meant as any sort of put down, or me being patronizing to you. Many do not know about some of the things(terminology) of electronics I mention above.
Here is my question to you. Do you know the topics I talk about above? If not, ask me about what you don't understand, and I will try to simplify as much as I know how. There are a lot of people here, or on the Electronics Forum, that I am sure will explain anything I said above.

@OnlyShopsOnline wrote:We have Amazon Prime and, so far, it has been worth it. When the free shipping amount was $25, many times I added in something that I might not have purchased, just to get the free shipping. I figured that merchandise was better than shipping charges, lol. Now, I just order what I really need. So, that, along with the videos, books, etc, has made it a good choice for us.
But, I don't always automatically purchase from Amazon. I still figure out all of my options.
However, when the free shipping amount went to $35, and Amazon Prime became more popular, I did notice huge price increases on lots of items. And, because of those increases, I have sometimes found it cheaper to order elsewhere and pay shipping. I just depends on how quickly I need something, and whether I'll have time to go to a B&M store to make a purchase. Sometimes it's just not worth my time to run an extra errand.
It does surprise me, with gas prices so low, that many companies are increasing shipping charges. Weren't gas prices the excuse they used a few years ago to increase charges?
Oh, and for those that don't realize it....when your guaranteed 2 day Prime delivery doesn't arrive in two days, you have options, if you call Customer Service. I usually request that they tack on an extra month to my Prime membership. I think they have other options as well.
Well as far as the gasoline goes, it might be 2/gal in some areas but $4/gal in others. Plus, when has any carrier - UPS, Fedex, USPS ever lowered prices? Amazon pays them, and for jet fuel too.

You don't need wifi to stream Amazon Prime movies through Tivo. You can use an ethernet cable. Tivo requires an internet connection anyway, to get updates so it's already hooked up.

All this talk of pet food made me feel like I was missing out. I just checked what Amazon was charging for the dog food I usually purchase at Costco. Amazon is not even close price wise. Also it was not eligible for prime.
I realize for some who are physically challenged this would be a great convenience but happily I can still drag the big bag of dog food home - not as easily I used to be able to but still can do it!
