That's a good reminder @Marp. I use Amazon Smile, too, and have for a long time.

With the movies and shows that you get with Amazon Prime, do you have to have a specific device to watch these with, or can you watch them through Tivo? If I could watch them through my Tivo I think Prime would be worth it for me. I've looked on Amazon and still can't figure this out. I know I could watch the videos on my laptop, but I would rather watch them on TV.

It doesn't affect me, I've had Prime for years. I live in an area with exremely limited shopping and I love Amazon.

Moonchilde - I bet you might be surprised at how many of us order enough from Amazon to way more than pay for the Prime fee! I was on my account a little earlier and noticed that it said I have had 60 orders in the last 6 months. That's ten orders a month and sometimes it's more, as I have a number of auto-deliveries. My monthly auto-deliveries alone are always between 5 and 8 or 9 orders.
I honestly don't think that is an inordinate number of orders for a LOT of people. I get a ton of household necessity items from Amazon, including pet stuff, soap and paper, just a wide variety of categories.
Also, I enjoy using the Prime Video. I don't really use the music freebies too much at all and can't even remember the last time I did. But there's a lot of stuff on Prime Video that isn't on Netflix or tv, so I've enjoyed that as well as the free shipping.
Oh, I'm not really a rant&rave against Amazon type person, and back in the day I was a huge fan, though not any more. And I have no doubt that there are a lot of people who save money with Prime as well as enjoying some of the perks.
I'm just wondering (musing aloud) at how the many, many more casual Amazon customers will react to this, and how that may affect Amazon profits down the road. Wondering if at some point it might turn into cutting off nose to spite face, or begin to affect Prime costs. They may gain Prime members or keep loyal Prime members and still lose revenue. They may lose revenue to the point where they'll have to change Prime. I'm not saying it's going to happen, just thinking aloud.
For a lot of people it will mean that it will once again be cost-effective to shop local. I have had that experience, with an item costing X on Amazon + X shipping, and costing me $1 less, the same or $1 more if I buy it locally (and get it the same day of course). And no, not everyone has multiple items they need, or can afford, to order to boost their order cost. When the price went up to $35 I stopped buying things I didn't actually need just to make the $35.
I don't doubt that a lot of people love Prime and save money with it, and I think that's great, honestly. But I think people should be wondering just how far (or near) down the road prices and minimums might change again, and again, and when will a limited income or other factors start to affect people's decisions, and just what price they put on convenience. It will be interesting to see this play out over the next few years.

Nick - Absolutely! Tivo has Amazon Prime, Netflix, and a ton of other programs. Those are the only two I use so I don't recall them all, but there are quite a few.
I also have some Roku3 units with which I watch video. My Tivos are several years old so I find that my Rokus have a little bit faster processors. But through the Tivos it is still totally doable. Mine are Premieres.
I always watch streaming video on my television because I'm not one for watching movies or shows on little bitty screens.

Amazon's goal is to be your only store. Just like Walmart, they have put independent businesses out of business. With fewer choices locally, Amazon will continue to raise prices. I understand convenience, but you pay for it, one way or another.

ETA - I made a mistake. I've had 90 orders in the last 6 months. I thought that 60 sounded kind of low. D'oh!
Yep, I have 81 orders with Amazon in 2015 and I've already placed 15 orders this year. That doesn't include items purchased on my husband's account who I share my Prime with. My highest number of orders was 180 a couple years ago. I'm getting my money's worth out of my Prime.

@Nicknack wrote:I was adding items to my cart on Amazon. They all say they're eligible for free shipping over $49. Last week I placed an order, and I'm almost positive it was free shipping over $35. I always wait until I get my minimum before I order. It's never very hard, but now it will be. I'm so disappointed. I love ordering from Amazon. I've seriously thought about joining Prime when they have their discounts but haven't done it yet.
Prime member here. I buy only things that say "PRIME" by the item and have saved over and above the cost to become a prime member.
If it doesn't say, Prime, many times it will down the road. I also like the 2-day delivery, even on Sundays. Got a flood light fixture coming tomorrow.
For many, Prime is a good thing.

Thanks @chickenbutt. I think my Tivo is a Premiere, too. I'm really going to consider Prime now.

DH orders our cat food there, much cheaper and we don't have to lug it through the store. I order most of what I buy from Amazon, including nail polish. And I always give DH an armful of paperbacks for every occasion. The points really add up.
I'm going to look into their produce delivery, guaranteed fresh. I'd like that,
Wow, I never thought to buy many of the things you mention from Amazon! I only buy from them a couple of times a year.
