I rarely order from Amazon, but ordered a gift that was scheduled to arrive today.  It never did.  Tracked my delivery and it says it will now be delivered on the 28th, two days late.  Normally I wouldn't care, but I need that gift soon.  How often does this happen?

Next time don't wait until the last minute.

@Biftu , In my experience Amazon delays are rare, but they happen. They do keep you informed which I appreciate , and you might get it tomorrow.

I've rarely had that happen, but once in a while it does. I ordered a Christmas gift via Amazon and it was 7 days late. I called Customer Service and was told they didn't have enough drivers in that area. But I'm sure the recipient will still love your gift, even if it's a little late.

I ordered shoes from Amazon yesterday afternoon, they arrived early this morning and delivery was free.

That is interesting. I received an email this morning at 8:09 AM that my package was to be delivered today.

Did not receive a package and did not receive a notice that the package was delivered.

It wasn't a delivery from Amazon.

I'm a Prime member and many of my deliveries are pushed back and delayed by days.

(Plus I'm tired of third party vendors not fulfilling the order with the described item.)

I didn't.  I need it in another week.  In any event, I naively thought Amazon delivered on time.  It's fine.  Just curious if this often happens.

I order lots from Prime but get virtually nothing the next day.  It's usuallyv2-3 days minimum.  Look for merchandise that says something like "fulfilled by Amazon".  Third part vendors are not so efficient.
