There's a thread I've posted on concerning qvc reviews not for fraud but other reasons.  It does make you wonder about the veracity of some reviews.

Jeez.  Well, we've certainly come a long way from old-fashioned selling term papers.  sigh

For someone like me who prides herself on reading reviews , this is a big deal.

I know enough to go beyond the fluff, bias and ridiculous reviews but what about those you believe are true and make a purchase based on their supposed purchases.

I recently bought a very small book about a 10-day cleansing diet, which consisted mainly of green smoothies.  I got very suspicious about the whole thing, though, when I started reading through the "endorsements" cited in the book.  There were just too many that included the phrase "...drum roll please..."

Re: Amazon Alleges Reviews Posted For Money

On Amazon I've seen some reviews written by the third-party seller of the item.  I have reported them in the past.

I also had a third-party seller give me a neg on a product review because I had to return it.   I did not get emotional or say anything that was wrong.  I just told the truth about the item because it was information that others would want to know.  I just left that alone.

Sounds like a pretty large volume of reviewers on this Amazon thing!

I think there are suspect reviews just about everywhere you go.   Even here, at QVC, I've seen some of the most ridiculous reviews anywhere and they even go through them before they post them.

I recently had a review at Evine rejected.  They didn't tell me why but it was upsetting to me because the things about the product that I said were things that other potential buyers would definitely want to know.  That may just be the catalyst that makes me drop them.

@MyGirlsMom I have suspected this from personal study, for a very long time. I actually suspect some of that is going on here, which is where I had my original eureka moment, several years ago. It would be nice if they could get a handle on this, and be forced to divulge results of investigation, and also of those receiving product free in exchange for reviews. Thank you for posting these pieces.

I think their "Vine Program" encourages fake reviews.  The reviewers are given the product for free and are required to go online to post comments.  By given a product for free, I think this encourages people to see a product in a better light and feel the pressure to give a good review.

Re: Amazon Alleges Reviews Posted For Money

Those who frequent the Kindle forum at Amazon have known that maaaany book reviews there are bogus - paid for or written by the author, friends and family. I wouldn't believe any review there for a self-pubbed author. Has been that way for years. Amazpn never has done much anout this as far as book reviews, and they certainly know.

Thanks @Moonchilde, you're right about self published books because I have a brother who is one and the reviews are all stellar.  His writings are ******.
