I wrote to Amazon after I received an "offer" from a seller. I had purchased a cell phone from a seller with good reviews & the phone was listed as new. The phone was reasonably priced & when I got it, it worked just fine. It wasn't new, though. It had someone's contacts & ring tones in it. I left a review saying just that. The seller contacted me & offered me money back if I would change my review. I was so mad at the thought that I was trusting Amazon & it's sellers. Of course Amazon said that they would investigate.

I wouldn't believe any review there for a self-pubbed author. Has been that way for years. Amazpn never has done much anout this as far as book reviews, and they certainly know.

There's a thread I've posted on concerning qvc reviews not for fraud but other reasons. It does make you wonder about the veracity of some reviews.
Thanks @Moonchilde, you're right about self published books because I have a brother who is one and the reviews are all stellar. His writings are ******.
Customers have been pointing this out to Amazon for years, but IMO, they haven't wanted to do much if anything about the book reviews because, however much or little, Amazon makes money from every book sold. They haven't wanted to take any definitive action that would cut down on ANY revenue :-(

On one of my Amazon purchases, a third party seller emailed me asking if I would please leave a good review as they were a small business and they really would apprecitate it. The item was a pair of CK cords that were hard to find and they seemed to have a layer of dust on them, so washed first and they did fit; didn't leave a review; wasn't planning to before the email.

How about the bizarre repeated "Kudos to X in the Lifetime Computer CS" posts? Notice we haven't had those in the new forum. We all knew they were bogus. The new spam software must be keeping them out.

What was frustrating is that people were reporting those posts, and they weren't investigated or removed. And they were soooo "hello - faaake." It was like whyyyyeeeee aren't those being removed?

This topic caught my eye because I read some reviews this morning on a face cleanser on Amazon and came to the conclusion that they had to be written by the vendor/manufacturer. The wording was just too similar in about 4 reviews and sounded like ad copy. I didn't order the item. I guess it is "buyer beware" everywhere.
