Re: Amazon AMAZING!

[ Edited ]

About 80% of my purchase are from Amazon.  I've been a Prime member for years.  The fastest ever was 6 gallon size water.  I ordered it in the evening.  It was there on my porch the following 11:00AM.  There have been quite a  few times I received the item the following day.

I can see the trend with Walmart.  The store near us (Superstore) is dirty with terrible sales service.  I wince when I'm near their food area.  I would not touch any of their food.  They trying to be another Amazon, ignoring the store fronts.

IMO Amazon Prime is not necessary for me.  Most items that I have ordered come with free shipping anyway.  I considered it a waste of money to pay $99 a year for free two day shipping,

But, I finally signed up for Prime, not for the free shipping, but for the Movies and books, we were paying a whole lot more for a different movie service than $99 a,year.

My DH is very happy with their selection of movies and I download Kindle books.  Yes, we order goods from Amazon, but they don't get here any faster with or without Prime.

i usually choose the delay in shipping option with Amazon and get a $5 credit on my account for future shopping if i don't need the item immediately.

If Walmart went out of business today and laid off every worker, the whole world would feel the economic impact, not just from their employees but those of manufacturers of the goods they sell.

@Kachina624

Our grocery store chain, HEB does the same thing regarding people with disabilities and I applaud them whole heartedly for it.

I certainly don't live in a rural area., and these stores are certainly NOT in a low income area either. My objection happens to be my experiences. And some of my customer service experiences happens to do with common courtesy and protocol that should be part of their training.....

INCIDENT #1--I've experienced employees at the checkout, stopping the ringing up of customers and arguing over hours and who should be stocking and who should have cashier duty,  She should have gone to a Manager and discussed it with them and let the Manager deal with the issue.  And this is not the first time it has happened.

INCIDENT #2--I've had a cute young customer approach the cute young cashier to ask about a price check, and again, only 2 lanes open yet the cashier stops checking people out to help the customer with a price check, meanwhile the rest of us WAIT IN THIS LONG LINE, then to add insult to injury after they've found the price, she returns to the checkout line and she puts him in the front of the line and checks him out first, when the customer ahead of me comments on it and voices her displeasure, the grinning cut in line customer smiles, laughs and says well she took care of me.  I did file an online complaint when I got home.   .....

INCIDENT #3---A cashier that wanted to be off but had to work voiced his displeasure and took it out on customers with his attitude and rudeness and made his feeling known (maybe he would like to be on an unemployment line instead---he wasn't a young pup either, late 30's/early 40's)

INCIDENT #4--My sister and I were looking at cat window ledges and she was looking for a specific color of carpet so we took it from the bottom and were in the process of putting the rest neatly back in a stack as we had found it---an employee approaches us , you better put that back neatly do you know how long it took me to stock those!!!  Is that anyway you talk to a customer even if you might think that.....we were doing the right thing.....really????!!!!!!

And there's more, but I think you get the idea...........Any wonder that Wally World is my last resort!!!!  Now I must say I've been to Walmarts in the Hill Country (Fredericksburg and Marble Falls) and I must say the employees, were polite, professional and helpful---guess they teach manners and courtesy in Texas' rural communities!!!

While Walmart employs a lot of people, so did the mom and pop shops and other retailers that Walmart drove out of business, then after the local businesses close in some areas Walmart has pulled out of the area.......leaving these people now with no employment possibilities.............no stores, no goods etc etc now order online or take loooooooooooonnnnng trips to "the big city"...............what about those people......

I can go into Target, Home Goods, Marshalls, Ross why even The Dollar Store, Dollar General, or Family Dollar---and am greeted by polite, professional and helpful employees.....if employees are just walking by and see me searching for soemthing they ask if they can help, the cashiers are friendly and professional...............This is where I PREFER to shop!!!

Just like I've survived without Amazon, it has to be a last resort and something I really really really need before I go to Walmart.......as a customer I'm glad we have the free market system where I have other choices as to where I spend my money........and others can chose where to spend there's too,  but there have been other once mighty retailers that are no more---some based on poor decisions made by Executives, some hainging by a thread.....and some went out of business because of poor customer service--where customers got fed up with and stopped frequentig despite their prices.---Kmart comes to mind.........(anyone out there in Texas remember Solo Serve???)...............

I appreciate everyone's patience in letting me express my opinion and giving me a chance to vent---this is a pet peeve of mine.  A dear relative worked in retail for many years and I know how hard and how many hours she put in to make her stores a success..........as an employee, Dept Manager, Store Manager, District Manager and a Buyer.................

No argument from me, @Kachina624, I'm on your side. I just find it amusing that I guess Walmart is "okay"to like and shop at now that there's a bigger Big Bad than Walmart.  Now, the real Big Bad is Amazon. In five or ten years, a different company.

Why isn't Apple in this conversation as far as abuse of the workers in the Chinese factories (to the point of suicide attempts), or Target, K-Mart and half a dozen other chains that have sold and likely still sell clothes made with child labor? They only "investigated" when they were caught out, and have they really changed, or have they just said they have? We can't know for sure. We know what we're told and what the (foreign) news media and the publicity machines for the companies put out there.

There needs to be that one group or organization that people can dump on - the "worst" example of capitalism, the worst world govt, the worst person to be (LGBTQ, overweight, diabetic), the trashiest, the sleaziest whatever - just so people can feel, think and say there's someone or something out there a whole lot worse than they are, and/or that whatever's going on, they told you so.

@Moonchilde @Kachina624

The employee thing is one piece of the puzzle you put it all together and it creates quite a picture............. And dont bring Kmart into the fold they are one of those that were once mighty and now on the verge of being no more....We dont have any more K-Marts here....after they built these brand new stores they never even opened, they just closed and moved out of town................

I applaud businesses that have a great idea, grow, and offer employment opportunities and jobs .....but there is a right way to do it, and there's a wrong way......making sure that it's not just Executives getting all the rewards and making sure the worker bees get to share in the success is a part of it............

I use both. Walmart beats Amazon on many items I buy. I check both of them.

I also find I can get free S&H on most items I buy from Amazn w/o buying Prime. I'm not interested in their perks.

As for the shipping: Amazon is tough to beat, although Walmart is trying. Amazon has it down to a unbeatable science now. Walmart doesn't include weekends on their 2/day delivery. Their billing is terrible and too many mistakes made. Packing is not good. Walmart has a long way to go to challenge Amazon. As does everyone.

@febe1

I can attest to Walmart and their e-comerce, my sister ordered from Walmart online---it arrived thrown in a box with hardly any packing and the item arrived broken...........A friend ordered online and it was the wrong item...

I ordered something from Target,  quick delivery, neatly packed = HAPPY CUSTOMER!!!  And the price was the same as Wally World!

I know they have a long way to go. I ordered canned goods, and they were all just thrown in a box. They arrived all dented. And the Returns. They don't give a statement with delivery and their procedure is for you to print from their email and take to the nearest store. Then, CS tracks the sale through the bar code. What???

Did I tell you, @Spurt, that my Publix has offered one hour delivery for $l45. annually. That's everything produce, dairy, just everything.

It's the wave of the future. Soon grocery stores will be as empty as malls.

@Spurt  It sounds like the Walmart store(s) where you've shopped have a serious management/supervisory problem.  I've shopped in more than a few stores and have never run across situations like what you've described.  I was glad to hear that you reported one as I surely would have done the same.

@Kachina624

I don't think that the Managers really care so they don't bother to go around the store and see what's happening.........their motto seems to be to do as little as possible and pick up your pay check............JMHO

And do you know Kachina I never even got a call, email, or letter from that complaint I filed.......that shows you how much they care.  I made a suggestion on my grocery store's website---I suggested that they needed to sell individual cans of Fancy Feast instead of just the case of pre-packaged flavors since my cats didn't like the fish flavors .....and the Manager even called to thank me for the suggestion

@Spurt  Those Walmart managers in the large stores make big bucks.  You'd think they'd take some pride in running a good operation.  There's a newer store about a mile from me and it's always neat, clean and the employee's appear to be happy

I filed a complaint once against US Air with the FAA.  They investigated my complaint, deemed it was valid and after a couple of months said I'd be getting a letter from US Air.  I'm still waiting.  They're out of business now so I'm not holding my breath.
