After much research, I found my grandpops (on my dads side) passport with a picture on it through ancestry dot com. He is SO young but its him. I got choked up! AND, I didnt know my "great" grandparents names and now I know my great grandfathers name too from my grandfathers passport! Im so excited! (I still dont know my great grandmothers names but Im going to keep researching and I think I have my grandparents obituaries so I can use them too!). I also belong to Ellis Island and that has given me some info too.

And... My DH is tracing his roots all day (he had some done before) and he traced back 5X great grandparents. Amazingly, he had a relative that was killed in the civil war and I had one that was injured in the civil war (on my moms side which is Dutch). AND one side of his relatives way back settled here where we now live BUT DH is NOT from this area. One is buried near here so we will go visit the cemetary because he wants to see his ancestors grave.

I have traced my Moms side back further but am having trouble tracing my dads side because my grandparents came over on the boat to NY harbor. But Im happy I found out what I did so far and Im not giving up. This is SO interesting! I just wish I would have written more info down when my dad and aunts and uncles were still here.
