Re: Am Is missing a "What can we do to help the QVC employees" thread?

@KingstonsMom    My experience with UI comes from 32 years of work with the state employment service with about 8 years of it supervising a unit of claims investigators and 7 years as a manager supervising the payment of claims in a large chunk of West Texas, in addition to overseeing many other programs.

Is that adequate?  If I were your daughter, I pursue collecting what she is owed possibly through a state legislator if necessary.  People accrue a lot of debt while unemployed so I'm sure she could use the money.   She could have thousands of dollars due her.  If they weren't going to pay her, she should have been issued a disqualification which she could appeal.  The squeeky wheel gets the oil.

Let me know if I can help.

@Qcloudy, 12 days. They are all heart aren't they?Woman Frustrated

@tiny 2   Corporation pay a hefty tax on employee wages through the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) so they'll have unemployment insurance to help with expenses when they lose jobs through no fault of their own.  It's not like they're not contributing.  Most retail businesses do not have bottomless pockets.

@Kachina624, I know Kachina. I am just upset about it. There have been complaints from workers in that facility for several years about the extreme heat in that building. They say they have to work with no air conditioning in summer. We have 95-100% humidity in the summer months and it is brutal but there have also been complaints about excessive heat in portions of the warehouse in winter also.

Woman Sad The missing young man was found dead in the building.

Oh no!  Smiley Sad   I am so sorry that he didn't make it out.

The thing about the summer heat - no a/c?  That's awful.   I wonder why the  excessive heat in the winter, though?

"Is that adequate"? Really?

I genuinely have no idea what your previous work field may have been, that's why I asked!

I've posted here with you for years, but don't remember you discussing your previous career, but that's just something I wouldn't necessarly pay attention to.

Good lord, I'm going to have a cocktail or two, I need 'em.

@tiny 2    All of those huge warehouse buildings are like that.  There are constant complaints about Amazon buildings.  It's impossible to air condition a building of 1 1/2 million square ft. with high ceilings.  Workers know when they're hired it's going to be hot, just like construction workers do.  It goes with the territory.  I know I've worked under some hot, miserable condition in my lifetime.

Haven't read the replies yet but there may very well be plenty of other places they can go to find work. I know that's the case where I am. There are also other ways to earn money (ie etsy, clean houses, etc).

I've never worked in a warehouse, so I had no idea.

Things can be replaced, it is tragedy that Kevon Ricks lost his life.

@ThinkingOutLoud

According to news reports and info from the Chamber of Commerce there, it is a very repressed area and the job market is very, very slim.

People have to drive a good ways for employment.

Yes, it is. His family said he called them at 1:30 AM on his break, the fire exploded at 2 AM.

None of them knew that it would be the last time they ever spoke.....so very sad.
