@JFD12 Being Jewish, we are usually named for a relative who has passed. I'm named after my father's mother who died when he was 18 and couldn't get home from the war while she was sick. My kids are also named from grandparents.

I was named after my maternal grandmother - Margaret - but her name wasn't actually Margaret - it was Maggie. But she hated the name Maggie and changed her name to Margaret although not legally. I would have preferred Maggie. My middle name - was named after my paternal grandmother - Jean - but her name wasn't Jean it was Jane. Go figure lol.
My mom's and grandmother's middle names were the months they were born - May and June. Wish they would have given me the middle name April which is my birth month.

@Boehm Collector I was named after my paternal Grandmother, too. My Dad was born in Italy, as of course my paternal Grandparents, too. What part of Italy is your family from? Mine from San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Campania.

My middle name is a shortened version of my mother's name. It is a perfectly fine name, but I always hated it as a kid because I felt it was so outdated compared to my friends' names. Now one of my granddaughters has it for a middle name.

My name came from a book my mother was reading.

I was named after my maternal grandmother - Angelina. My mother shortened it and named me Angela, which I like. I was also the only one in our family that inherited her blue eyes, so I feel a special connection to her.
I was a twin, but sadly, my twin sister was still born. My mother told me if she had lived she would have been named after my paternal grandmother - Concetta. Obviously we are of Italian descent!!

Apparently, my father wanted to name me Cornelus (I am not a fan of this name), my mother chose Teresa and fought for that name. So I am Teresa (thank God) and they always called me Terry (with a Y), when I was in my 20's my mother started spelling Terry as Terri. So I use both.
Mom always loved the name Teresa, she thought it was a beautiful name. I agree now. I always wanted to be Jacqueline and be called Jackie, but Teresa/Terri is great too.
We were all named after Saints. Me and 1 of my brothers do not have a middle name. However at my Catholic Confirmation, I took the name Francis.

I'm Jewish. Jews with eastern European background tend to name their children after deceased relatives. Many times if you don't like the name, often people used the initials. Mine are "D & H" for the middle name. I like my name and it's common for women of my age.
I'm a Diane....I think that's probably the first time I have mentioned it here.
I also hate how the name "Karen" has become a slur. I really thought that it would die down by now but it seems that it has only grown particularly online. It's a really nice name but has been vilified!
In many comments sections I can't help from commenting back. Why is that name become such a pariah? I would hate that if it were my name!
