Re: All Network Channels, Why?

It is a sad day, indeed, when 14 people are massac**d.  It blows my mind that with the importance of these horrible acts there are concerns over the cancelation of a regularly scheduled show.

After we dropped our rgranddaughter off at home and returned safely to ours through freezing rain, I set about getting dinner ready.  It was only then that I tuned into a cable news channel waiting for the law enforcement briefing.  There were no interviews with crying of the interviewees, nor was there sensationalism in the reports I watched.

I must tell you that the police in California are exemplary, as are the FBI, ATF, TTF, Highway Patrol - I could go on.  We lived in San Francisco when the Zodiac killings occurred many years ago.  After that criminal struck again, someone saw a small red sports car speeding away from the area.  An APB was released for ANY small red car to be stopped and the driver to be detained and questioned.  Well, guess what kind of car we had at the time?  An MGB - Red.  On his way home from law school that night shortly after 9:30, my husband was stopped 4 times by police, asked to depart the car, spread-eagled on the car, frisked, questioned and the car thoroughly searched.  Yes, it was kind of a pain for him getting home; however, we were thankful that the San Francisco City and County police department were "on the job."

Though the perpetrator was never found and arrested, our guys did the best they could and we knew it.

The "guys" down in San Bernardino are performing a very difficult job right now trying to piece together a very complex situation, from the criminal aspect of the case, while dealing with the various medical examiners, so as not to miss anything; trying their hardest to work with and show compassion to those whose lives were lost and those hospitalized.  And all of this is an inter-agency effort, which can be difficult.

Let's let the criminologists do their work.  It takes time.  There's no rushing anything like this.

Regular programing will resume, but the lives of the 14 will not, God Bless their souls.

Strange you call this a California event, like something coming out of Hollywood.  I doubt the families of those killed or injured are feeling like it has been an event.  Perhaps you need to watch some of the new channels to realize what is in store for our country.

yes.  with all the "strange"elements of this atrocity and FBI participating in the investigation - this appears to be an event of interest to all Americans.

It's been going on here since the minute they knew it happened. They keep bringing on this female police conference, they ask her the sam questions, and she keeps saying she has no answers yet. So why do non stop coverage if you have no answers, plus none of the stations are reporting the same details.

For people who may have people in the facility on lockdown, people in the neighborhood so they know to remain inside and family members who have family there but live a distance?

I don't think anyone is saying (I know I'm not) that they aren't interested, I'm speaking for myself but I can't understand why every major channel (non-cable) has to put the same thing on at the same time.

I don't see that as meaning someone doesn't care about the news and people involved, I see it as wondering WHY it needs to be on every single channel.

I thought the question was very well stated.  It simply doesn't make sense the way it is on every channel.  It isn't going to change as one channel wants to outdo the other.

The stupid thing is that they are showing the same thing.   It's not like one is providing additional news.

Many people watch a particular news station and won't go to another out of habit.  I watch the same one daily....when I became overloaded yesterday, I turned to cable.

Every station wants to report this story because it IS the major story of the day, and they know their regular viewers expect them to be covering it.

Do some of you expect them to say " hmmm...station xyz is covering this...so I guess we don't have to" ?

I agree with this!

They can't take turns and say: We'll get this one you get the next one.

They all compete and report.

That is the way it is.

I, too, agree with this.

I realize this is uncomfortable saying this, but....

the network/cable stations make a lot of revenue with stories like this.

They are a Ratings Medium...more viewers, more $$$.

Because we watch and are interested.....

Um I watched the Tree lightening and the Grinch on NBC so obviously there were other things on. On CBS they had on Survivor as well.

Re: All Network Channels, Why?

We had it on in the office from when it happened.  But once I left here, I went home and never saw it again.  Our local channels and many cable channels (not cable news channels) were airing regular broadcasting.
