The majority of his time as an attorney was spent practicing personal injury law.

Yes, that's my understanding, too. He spent the bulk of his career as what is commonly referred to as an ambulance chaser. Cases where you can get huge insurance settlements for injured clients.....and then, in his case, ultimately steal it from them, too!

Re: Alex Murdaugh- Next Steps

@spumoni99   I noted that the trial revealed the multi-million $$$ debt run up by Alex involving numerous criminal acts.

I also believe that his criminal defense team is owed MILLIONS of $$$$ for the defense they mounted for him over the last few years.  Now his lawyers stated they would be handling his costly appeals for "as long as it takes."

Where's the $$$ coming from??  He's estranged from his family so I doubt they're helping him financially (especially now that he's been given a double-life sentence.")

How is he paying his lawyers???  Maybe they will sell off his numerous properties???  How is his surviving son, Buster, being provided for financially?

Questions I doubt we'll ever find answers to but I thought I'd askSmiley Wink

Buster is a grown man in his mid twenties and probably well educated. He darn well should be able to make his own way.  Plus, as someone here mentioned, he probably knows where the stolen millions are.

@MoJoV   Attorneys are prohibited from accepting payment for professional fees from stolen money.

It's called "fruits of a poisoneous tree" and they could be disbarred and prosecuted by accepting payment from questionable sources.

He had very renowned and respected attorneys.  They have to be paid and it won't be from $$$ husbanded away in questionable off-shore accts and/or cash under a mattress.

I think all the other lawsuits from clients he stole from could be settled from insurance companies; however, the millions he likely will owe his attorneys at the end of his appeals process will have to be paid from bona fide sources.

The word is that he was expelled from law school for plagiarism, and that his father paid 60 grand to get him back in. I'm not sure if he ever returned.

@paixmcdao   The Judge referred to the numerous times Alex appeared before him in Court to represent clients throughout the years, so, YES, Alex must have passed the Bar and been given a bar # to practice law in the State of South Carolina.
