Others obviously do not feel this way, however, when I heard this yesterday, the first thing that came to mind was "just like OJ Simpson"....the guy got away with murder. He's the one pulled the trigger. ![]()

Even if you don't "mean" to kill someone you can be charged with various types of involuntary manslaughter.
It's not murder. It's manslaughter. Of course he didn't intend on killing her, that's why the charge was "involuntary." You killed someone, but didn't murder them, legally.
I believe that the charge was correct, but the prosecution was inept.
Oh well, such are the wheels of Justice.

@Lakelife62 This nightmare is still not over for Baldwin. I believe he still has a civil trial filed by the family.
@Lakelife62 wrote:Good. I have always thought it was a vendetta against Baldwin with nothing substantial to back it up. I got my wish- the trial was over quickly.
I have a feeling Alec Baldwin will have the best sleep of his life tonight.

Wealthy actors, celebrities and sports figures don't go to jail for things the rest of us would be in prision for life for. They are exept because--well. . . it's them.
I never figured he would serve a day for shooting someone.

I think that, from now on, he should use only non-real guns in his movies.
Other producers and film owners, too.
The trend will eventually catch on.
Maybe insurance companies will discount/decrease their insurance premiums, which would be a benefit and incentive.

Baldwin was charged because his behavior matched the elements of the crime of involuntary manslaughter under the state's law.
If charges had not been brought the DA's office would have been blasted by a public clamor that Baldwin was given preferential treatment, because his actions fit the crime.
I think the judge was lenient first in granting the motion to exclude his role as a producer on scene. I think when the defense brought up an additional smoke and mirrors motion that "evidence" had been suppressed the judge latched on it. My understanding was that this evidence had never been summited to the prosecution so they would not have been aware of it so they could turn it over to the defense. This evidence was ammunition of a different type and caliber than the fatal bullet and never established it had been at the Rust scene. This evidence was known to the Gutierrez defense team and chose not to use it at her trail...hum. This evidence was summited to the sheriff's office by someone walking into the station after the completion of the Gutierrez trail and they issued a new report number because they viewed it as a different incident. That's why the prosecution was unaware of it.
At the very least the death of this mother and wife will hopefully serve as a caution against future bad practices when filming with firearms.
There is really no way any court can provide justice when a loved one is taken away. That's a concept for society but not for someone grieving.
