It's a genuine tragedy. A woman died.

With a sense of remove, though, it also kind of reads, to me, like a Murder She Wrote plotline. Except in this case, obviously, I seriously doubt anyone intended to switch the gun or the ammo. If anyone received threatening messages or letters leading up to the event, though...what if it was a murder and framing plot by the person who switched the ammo?

Unlikely! But stranger things have happened in the world.

@patbz    I've wondered why they don't use phony plastic guns, indistinguishable from the real thing, and sound effects for the noise?  Much less risk and hassle.  No need for an armorer.  Maybe the union doesn't want a position eliminated?

A lot of people in the industry are saying that with the advances with digital imagery, there is no need for actual weapons on any movie/TV set.

The TV show 'The Rookie' has already banned actual weapons on set since this accident.

If Alec Baldwin would have had a gun safety class, he would have known to check the firearm when it was handed to him.
He has tweeted out some pretty disturbing things in the past. IMO, he is responsible in this.

@wvumountiefan   Alec Baldwin was in a promotion for a documentary about the NRA and gun manufacturers.  It was not a documentary favoring either entity.

I wouldn't say it was his responsibility to check the gun but I do have issue with the way he handled the weapon.

Regardless,  Halyna is dead, leaving loved ones to mourn.  Baldwin is obviously overwhelmed with grief, and there really is no outcome that can make any of this better.

The person that needs to be questioned is the person in charge of the guns on set and checking to make sure they are empty. Alec will bounce back quickly as he seems to be a very self centered person.

Re: Alec Baldwin Case

[ Edited ]

The first info I saw on the news showed a video of someone on the set saying "cold gun" when it was in Baldwin's hand before he shot it. Today the sheriff says they have recovered over 500 live rounds of ammo on the set. Why would any live ammo be necessary? Supposedly, after the armorer checked the gun and placed it on the cart for use, two other crew members handled the gun before Baldwin took it from the cart.  Apparently firing off live rounds for target practice was a common way to pass time on the set when they weren't filming. I can think of better ways to pass the time. The only reason I can think of having a real pistol in that setting would be to kill a rattlesnake which are not uncommon in that area. This investigation will go on for a long time. So easy to get harmless replica firearms and digitally project firing sounds....why even flirt with danger by using real guns when there is a safer and smarter alternative?

@Duckncover

Just a minor correction, Alec didn't take the gun from the cart, the armorer (Hannah) handed the gun to the assistant director, saying "cold gun" and he in turn handed the gun to Alec, saying "cold gun", but witnesses said that they never actually saw the assistant director check the gun before handing it to Alec.

Not Alec's responsibility, but the responsibility of the armorer.  This person should have checked the gun and watched it, had it locked up, etc.  Not sitting out where everyone and their mother could handle it.  Can we expect actors to have first hand knowledge of guns?  No, that's what the expert is for.

@KingstonsMom I am sure by now we have all read differing accounts of how this went down. Reuters is reporting the Assistant Director took one of three guns off the cart and handed it to AB--not that the Armoror handed the gun to him.

I know, with interviewing so many witnesses, their recollection of events varies from one to the next.

Until the investigation is completed and the results of it are disclosed by law enforcement, no one really knows what ALL of the truth is surrounding the case.
