The nearest Aldi to me is a drive that is out of my way...we checked it out when it 1st opened but haven't gone back. If we had one closer to home we might try it again.

I like Aldi's and just got back from Trader's Joe's new store in Orlando. Yay!

My problem is that a lot of the food has the preservatives you would expect from food coming from Europe to America.

Which foods? You make it seem like they sell mostly German goods. They do not! Some of the noodles are imported - the spaetzle.

Are you talking about all the baked goods? No, the crackers and cookies are made in the US, as is the regular bread. The Stollen is available during holiday season. They sell Pfeffernuese, Domino Sterne and on and on. At holiday time. Not everyone has access to local German bakeries - good for you!

I love Aldis and wish we had one closer to us. You can buy a lot for your money, however you can not buy everything. Most of their stuff is their brand, but they do have some name brand stuff. I like there brand as good as the name brands.

The loaves of bread at our Aldis come from Canada. Some cookies, muesli, stolen, some jams come from their home country, Germany. Pickles were from Poland.

I don't think the food tastes very good and it's filled with preservatives.

You obviously like it, which is OK with me. We were asked for our opinions, and I gave mine.

I prefer Trader Joe's products (although I don't like their bread or baked goods either).

About 2 months ago Aldi's had a display of plants. I got 2 huge geraniums in large pots plus marigolds and they are doing great on my front porch. They were $2.99 each!! I drink fat-free milk and last week it was $3.01 for a gallon which is the cheapest price I've found in my area.

The Aldi's stores in my area have all been upgraded and new units built in the last several years. I've always been a fan, even when the stores were substandard, as the prices were good. Now they have lots of great produce selections at wonderful prices. The diary and juices are usually significantly lower that other stores regular prices.

Lots of never heard of brands, but they are worth trying a few times to see if you like some of their stuff. Everyone I know who goes to Aldi's also shops a bigger store as well, as there are certain things and brands they don't carry, but it has become a full grocery, and when funds are limited, you can get enough variety for a full week's menu.

As they update and build new stores, they are becoming much more upscale, with more selections. Most folks who don't like Aldi's have only had exposure to their older stores, which are less than ideal.

If you are watching food labels for country of origin or packing, be careful here, as some is not domestic and a lot is not labeled for what country it is from.
