Some parts of this are not adding up. This is an interstate and most people would be going at a high rate of speed. So if you even saw a child you'd be by it before you could pull over. Did she exit off and then circle back around the interstate and come back trying to see the child again? Did anyone else report seeing a child? How could she be the only one who saw it?
It is all so very strange. I do hope that it ends well, that's for sure.

Thank goodness there is a video. FBI is good at enhancing video that is taken in darker settings.
That light almost looks like a drone. Could someone have sent a drone with camera to check out the car that stopped?

Great thinking. Bothers me.
Many things are, of course, possible.
However:
• It's 9:30 at night. You can't see things on the shoulder driving the speed limit.
• If a small child was walking along, seems another driver might have noticed, especially after SHE pulled over, car lights on.
• If you call 911 they keep you on the line until the officer arrives. Never hang up.
• Why would she either suddenly CALL her brother (not Mom who was expecting her?) or hang up on 911?
• If it is dark and you see a toddler, more likely words would be calming, not questioning. Questioning (Are you okay?). Calming, (Hello htere, I'm Mary.). Dark, late at night, you are a toddler alone, unfamiliar car with lights suddenly pulls up—scary! Kid would hide. Not stand there to answer questions.
• If this was a set up, how would the person using a child as a lure be there so quickly, never knowing who would stop? Not a great plan.
• Police report she came by the station just before this (so polite! they said) for "business." Really. What business did she suddenly have when she just left work, it was late at night, and she was bringing dinner to her mother?

Good points, too, @1Professor. It's all so weird and confusing.
On your last point, I don't think she left work at 8:30 p.m. and went to a police station. My understanding is that earlier in the day she had been at a station in Harpersville, AL which by the map is a ways east of Hoover where the incident happened and where she lived with her parents. They said she was there for "business" whatever that means. She left work at 8:30 and picked up food at 9:00 and then was getting very close to home when there was this "child sighting." In fact, her mother said she was just minutes from being home.
And FWIW, here's what the Harpersville PD said about her on Facebook.

Good clarification on when she was meeting police. On "business."
However, with all the oddities, that is also an intentional act that could have been deliberate. Making herself known in a positive way.
(Can you tell I used to be a criminal defense attorney?)
*** If that video doesn't show the red car also BACKING UP on the freeway/highway, I don't get how she could be talking to a child who she would have passed way back.

They interviewed a truck driver and she was urging all the truckers on that highway to examine their dashboard cameras. She said somebody may have seen her and the toddler. She is thinking a trucker may have something on camera. The film I saw it was totally dark and I could not see any car pullover but hers because her hazard lights were on

@1Professor, you're a lawyer and I'm a skeptic. HA!
And yes, that's why I said earlier that there's no way she saw the child and had time to even attempt to stop and pullover...she would have been past the kid and would have had to back-up....which the video did not show the car doing. That's why I surmised maybe she exited off and came all the way back around the interstate to see if she could see the child again a second time....maybe that's why video shows her off on the side of the interstate driving slow (like she's looking for the child where she saw it the first time) for awhile before she actually stops.
But who the heck knows!!!

CARLEE IS HOME! She returned to her home alone an hour ago and has been taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Well, that's great news! But I am now even more skeptical of this whole thing.
