I wonder what percentage of people who live in these flood zone areas have flood insurance? They are fools not to have it, but I am sure many do not. If they expect the government to bail them out, they are in for a surprise. .

We have several more days of rain...1-2 inches per hour in some areas in the Southeast portion of city...currently close to 3000 911calls of people needing water rescue.one of our local TV stations is off line because of 2 feet of water in their bulding and they had to evacuate! We have had tornado warnings all over the city in the last 48 hours and there are some people on their roof because of water in their home. Our first responders have been extraordinary as usual, but the help from citizens of this city is also extraordinary....boats, gas, water, food. This will take years to overcome for many. Please pray for our city, Rockport, and the 25% of our state that have been impacted. If you can, please donate to the Red Cross.
@Shiloh09 i hear you! i remember my area of Los Angeles after the devastation of the 1994 earthquake. we were in the news for a day or two then everyone forgot about us. but we all pitched in - and the rebuild led to a very nice rebirth in the area. the main thing now is to get people to safety. when the roads are passable a tremendous amount of aid will arrive. i hope everyone can make a contribution today to a worthy charity that will help people - and animals! it will all help. keeping Texas in our thoughts and prayers.

Being the animal lover i am, i am so worried about them, sometimes people just leave them, they can not take care of themselves.

I am heartbroken by all of this. I always donate to the Southern Baptist disaster fund groups because they go in with food trucks, chainsaw crews and laundry trucks after disasters like this. Can you imagine how wonderful a laundry truck would be in the coming weeks?
You sometime don't think about simple things like that. Breaks my heart. The misery to come and the people who won't survive.

I have already donated to a couple of animal charities/shelters in the Huston area to help the animals in need there.

I would love for teachers to get high school and college kids involved - spend their weekends helping those who do not have insurance. I'm not in a flood zone and had a 100 year rain event a few years ago and had water in my basement. It's nothing fun to deal with.

I was just watching CNN for awhile. I could no longer bear to watch. It is so reminiscent of Katrina in so many ways. Rockport residents no longer can inhabit what's left of their town, for now. I feel so hopeless to only be able to donate money. It's so very, very, very sad. My prayers are with all those people impacted by this tragic event. And the rain is supposed to continue till Friday, I heard. I'm so sad.![]()

There was a group of kids who helped south of here in a subdivision struck by a tornado yesterday. The kids will be out of school for at least a week, but until the rain stops, not much one can do...all freeways shut down. At this time, it is neighbor helping neighbor on their own streets and neighborhoods. Thank you for caring!

I've been seeing a few mentions about...
why didn't Houston have a manatory evacuation?
I'm sure, in time, as soon as everyone is secured & accounted for,
emotions will arise and 'Houston dropped the ball' accusations
will begin. I just hope they don't find communities of
deceased victims...especially when officials said to stay put.
This could legally get really ugly..hope not, but we'll see.
