After the events of this weekend I have to take a prolonged break from all of it. It's going to be cat videos on You Tube I guess. Something funny and mindless.
In addition to all of the death over the weekend yesterday was the anniversary of the Newtown Ct school shooting. It is all too much to process.
Anyone else need to take a step back?
I agree with you that it has been a horrific weekend with the Boston shootings, Bondi Beach shootings and the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner it is time to take a step back.
The college shootings were at Brown University in Providence.
Thank you for the correction. I thought I heard Boston University instead of Brown University.

I will never step back from watching news coverage from several different outlets, and reading different newspapers. I want to be as informed as possible, even if some news is unsettling. Even if some newspapers seem written on a fifth grade level.
I want to know what's going on in my community, my city, my state, my country, and the world. I try to regularly read the English version of a couple of foreign papers to get their perspective on current events.
To me a free press is too precious a right, the first for a reason, not to avail myself of it daily.

@Etoile308 Speaking for myself, I don't feel that avoiding the news for few weeks is a bad thing. My mental health right now is more important than listening to the same thing everyday.
If there is anything earth shattering that happens my daughter will let me know.

@Etoile308 I totally agree with you and will always stay current and informed be it good or bad news.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 - It is hard, and it can affect our health. I tell people to focus on those around them. If we can make others feel good then we will. I also recommend service to others we don't know. There are a lot of ways to help those who are struggling.
I know what you mean about cat videos. They can be addicting! Any time I start to feel overwhelmed with what's going on in the world, I try to watch a favorite movie that uplifts me.
It is a lot to process. You are definitely not the only one who feels like this right now! (((HUGS)))

I stopped watching news after weeks and weeks of nonstop 9-11 coverage. Then, a couple of years later, I stopped watching TV altogether. The last presidential election, I started watching news again. Now I get news stories (from some of the news networks) on their YT channels.

Please, please, try to understand, & lovingly accept, that each person needs to decide for their individual selves, just what, when, & how they believe they need to do for themselves, in order to cope. These are very, very trying times ...

I can binge on funny/cute dog videos for hours (seems like minutes). My dad has always told me I see the world thru rose colored glasses, which means my view of the world is unrealistic (in a good way). Maybe so but I'm glad I don't think the worst of people until they've proven otherwise.

I pick and choose the news I watch.
I will listen to the headlines to see if I want to listen to the more.
There are a very few reputable news sites I read.
I will never listen to a certain person speak.
I don't put up with bull**** news. I want facts and if real news doesn't provide it, I'll look it up on certain reputable sites or go to a network that provides it.
