Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

I'm just here to sympathize! I am sooo sensitive to music, and I fear the day when a younger generation moves into my neighborhood, blasting their obnoxious music!

I don't go around blaring out Beethoven, and I don't want to listen to anyone else's music! (In my own comfortable home setting.)

Maybe you can politely mention that their music was too loud once you do get to talk to them.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

I feel for you. We live in a rural area too and have a doozy of a neighbor at the farm next door.

I've posted about him before.  He as a good 8 dogs who roam around the roads and our yard. His cows including a bull have been out everyday this past week (won' fix fences) in the road and my yard. Has junk cars and machinery all over his property including front yard. His 30 something son races up and road all hours on a 4 wheeler. Son also was arrested for beating the k*ap out of his wife. He decides to target practice with his guns at midnight. Township has no junk ordience or noise ordience. No local police, just state police 14 miles away.

I don't say boo, he's mean, he has a short fuse and a butt ton of guns according to his brother who is the nicest person.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

@CrazyKittyLvr2 OMG, I feel for you!!   When we had our home out in the woods we had a very similar situation.  I mean crazy, we could write a book about it.  15 years of chronic nonsense with a neighbor who I swear was in the mafia, not even joking.    They too had many animals (I do love animals) however within reason.  Many guns they freely used for target practice   His wife had many dogs and ferral cats always roaming around.   They had 2 great danes that terrified me, I wouldn't even go out in the yard if they were outside.   We got along the best we could and luckily were a bit removed (not far enough though) as we all had many acres of land.  I used to wake up to his horses grazing in my back yard!!!   Best thing we ever did was downsize and we are now in a townhouse in  a different area.  So far so good, fairly quiet, but when you have good neighbors appreciate them!!   Best of luck to you.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

@LindaSal  My daughter went out to take a bag of garbage to the can for pickup. When she came in she said she looked up and his bull was 10 feet away staring at her.

I've seen too many episodes of Fear Thy Neighbor on ID. I don't poke the bear. His brother said he subscribes to some kind of mercenary magazines and he has the junk cars around as obsticles when "they" come for his guns. Oy. Crazier than an outhouse rat.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

I'd call the police and ask if there is a noise ordinance in your town and ask who you call if you need to report a noise problem.  My town has an ordinance, there's a special number to call and the police arrive with a sounder meter thing.  If the noise is beyond the threshold, they put a stop to it.  It could have been a party and it won't happen again  or perhaps it annoyed you but really wasn't unreasonable.  I would not approach the people or be nasty and try to make trouble for them with the rental agency.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

@CrazyKittyLvr2  But aren't there town/country laws that prohibits domestic animals to roam all over?

Once when we were traveling through rural NY very late at night, we rounded a bend and our car struck cows that were meandering on the road!

It so happened that the cow owner had already "been told" about his herd crossing the road, since other accidents had occurred.

Apparently, laws about such things were on the books, just never enforced.

I wouldn't do a THING. You were woken up from your nap - honestly, it could be a lot worse. These people are renting, they aren't home owners and probably don't give a rip about the neighborhood.

I wouldn't take them a welcome gift. The most I would do is wave hello when you see them outside.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

@Harpa  I'm sure there are laws about his livestock on the road, however, I think everyone associated with the township is afraid of him. He just does what he wants.

There are decades worth of old cars, tractors and other farm equipment sitting in fields around the house and barn. Heaven knows how much gas and oil are soaking into the ground.

Re: Advice to handle noisy situation

@bonnielu  I also live in a quiet rural neighborhood, going on 47 years now. One Sunday afternoon, probably 20+ years ago, I had my windows open. Neighbors on both sides turned on VERY loud music & I was stuck in the middle! Well, I put a Celine Dion CD in my player, turned it up as loud as possible (seriously, my walls were vibrating!), left the room and covered my ears for about 15 minutes. After that I turned off my music and there was blessed silence! It never happened again. All I ever heard after that was a quiet murmer of one neighbors radio, which didn't bother me.

To give them the benefit of the doubt...the neighborhood is heavily wooded for the most part, and each property is at least 4 acres. I think maybe they just didn't realize how sound carries through the trees!
