It's not a matter of trusting your spouse with your money -- it's a matter of being prepared for life as an individual. It would behoove every person to be able to take care of themselves and stand on their own in the event of an unforeseen circumstance such as divorce or death.

Hi, silkyk - Actually. it's usually not that simple. Divorces are often extremely painful and messy, and a lot of people choose not to have to deal with the courts after a loved one has passed. Also, a lot of people greatly value their independence. It's empowering. Each to their own. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
