How soon after starting treatment should you know if it's helping or not? I've had 2 sessions (for pain relief) and I'm doing what the practitioner has instructed me to do but I am having zero results. I've still got 3 treatments to go but I don't think I'm going to continue after that unless my pain starts getting better.

I've been going for over a year now and it's the best thing I ever did for my upset digestive system. I knew I wouldn't feel better overnight as it took a long time for me to get to the point I was when I began seeing this man.

I am fortunate as I live near a big city and we see this type of medicine popping up all over. There are few acupuncurists in the more suburban areas however.

I know it is wonderful for a lot of ailments as it is done at NIH and also many insurance companies are now paying for it but like everything else you must get a good person. The Asians are definitely good at this art.

Good luck, Lorraine. These treatments have indeed been a Godsend for me.

My sister has these treatments all the time, as she has trigeminal neuroglia which is very painful. I know she has a lot of pain with this, as I have seen the tears pour down her cheeks when it hits her. Has had this for 10+ years now. Even had a laser treatment where they put the halo on her and it didn't near as good for the sharp pains she gets as the acupuncture treatments do... You do have to give it a chance to work. You didn't get this pain overnight, so you can't expect it to leave overnight either.

Good luck.

I started to feel some relief in about 3 hours. It didn't last long though, but after 3 treatments, the hip pain relief was significant. My acupuncturist said if you don't see some relief in 3 sessions, its not for you. I continued for a total of 8 sessions and the pain is gone. Its been about 1 1/2 years now. I was very skeptical as I was worn out from the pain. Im so glad I tried it. Would highly recommend people to give it a try and see if its for you. I really enjoyed it and would not hesitate to go back.

What kind of ""practitioner"" is it and what has he/she told you to do? I found immediate pain relief with acupuncture.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

A few years back, I took quite a few treatments for nerve pain. I experienced great relief shortly after starting (within 2 or 3 treatments). I was to the point of spacing my appointments out further when I had to quit due to financial reasons. If I could afford it, I would definitely do it again. Good luck.

I tried it for my back a few years ago. It helped....but I think it did because it totally relaxes you....and gives you kind of a feeling of well being and peace.

It's worth a try. Good luck.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I talked to my practitioner yesterday, told him I wasn't getting relief, so he's got a few other techniques he's going to try. He leaves on the 22nd for en extended visit to his parents in China, so I'll see him till then--that'll be a total of 7 visits and I figure I'll know by then whether or not I should continue when he gets back.

He talks to me a lot (in a good way) and has some startlingly insightful observations about what's bothering me.

Glad you saw what I posted mrs.lorraine. It was very heartfelt. It's terrible how pain can affect us so terribly.
