I would noy complain of the hike but I don't trust mail being delivered.  I live in a very safe TN town and we were tol not to use the blue postal boxes as people are getting into them.  I have mailed gift cards and family never receives.  I go into the post office to mail and at times it still isn't delivered.

@matty liz I agree. Our mail service is very poor. We just lost our great mailman

and in the last few months had many mistakes as in our mail in other people's

boxes. Things do get lost often.

@ScrapHappy  Our mail in VA is the worst in the whole nation. I only mail a few checks, most come directly from my bank account.
When my son lost a credit card it was one the payments were being deducted from automatically. What a mess ! He had to call them all, etc.

Received an email "USPS chief faces Senate grilling over mail service woes in metro Atlanta."  If you Google it, you'll find it.  I think there's mentions of VA too.  They talk about the delays and fixing it, but what about the mail you never receive that is lost?  My sister never received a gift card.  My husband sells on Ebay and buyer never received it.

Re: ANOTHER POSTAGE RATE HIKE

Yes that is a big jump but I have to say that I can't remember the last time I used a stamp--in fact I may still have stamps that are priced in the 50 cent range! Just don't use them anymore. I pay bills online and send cash online as well--- I don't send any type of greeting cards either and haven't for years. Stamps are kind of a thing of the past

@wagirl - "stamps are a thing of the past"???

hmmm....no.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: ANOTHER POSTAGE RATE HIKE

Dare I say that, for many, many years, (previously to the recent rate hikes), I have been secretly wondering how mail can be sent via airplane across the country at such a low cost.

Considering airplane fuel costs, etc.

I do understand the rate increases, but they could cut back regarding all of the stamp options.

Just make a few simple stamps at a lower cost.

Maybe charge higher rates for 'fancier' / novelty stamps.

Yes, plain, simple stamps at reduced rates !!

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Have some forever that are several years old up to last year. Hundreds.  I buy a lot of stamps I like.

Since I live where there is no home delivery, only pickup at a post office, over the years I have entirely stopped mailing.  I still have some the original forever stamps.

You can pay online with your bank, very occasionally with a small fee.  Bills can be entirely online too.

Save money on checks too!

You pay for checks? Smiley Surprised  faint.gif

I have never in my life paid for checks nor know of anyone who did!  In my neck of the woods if you have a "checking" account, checks, statement booklets, check/statement wallets are all FREE!   Also, if you do not feel like picking them up at the bank, they will mail them to you on their dime!

Re: ANOTHER POSTAGE RATE HIKE

The only time I ever got free checks were for the first 200 when you opened a new account. After that they needed to be ordered, at a high rate through the bank. It didn't matter your balance. Finally printing services were permitted to print personal checks.

Now nothing is free, not even a monthly paper statement.

I think the best rate I've found for checks was through Costco.

I have never gotten free checks either unless they did that decades ago and I don't remember.

Re: ANOTHER POSTAGE RATE HIKE

Years ago we used to get free checks too at all our banks.  Keep a certain amount on deposit and you get free checks.  Also available for seniors accounts without a minimum requirement.

Not any longer.
