I just found out today that someone I know's father has had dementia for several years and is getting worse.  She said he had spent thousands of dollars on scams and they had to take his checkbook and credit cards away from him.  I think it just suddenly got much worse than it had been.  He was always such a dignified smart man.  It's so scary to think people can be scammed this way.
