AMAZON PRIME + TAX (??)

[ Edited ]

My prime came up for renewal. Total charged me was $99 PLUS $8.91.

Ca. sales tax is 7.25%...which is less than $8.91. I asked, they do not know the answer nor why they use this amount for taxing their $99 Prime charge.

😣

If tax is a problem, why not cancel?

Try calling again & speak w a supervisor. Bet they'll credit it for you. Their customer service is usually great.

Is not a problem but a customer should know what that tax is....where it came from imo.

I am thinking of cancelling as my orders are smaller now. Is good business, imo.

eta.....yes, got a credit....but is not the point...to me anyway.

Even though it's less than $2 imagine if they did that to everyone in Ca.

How much extra would they be putting in their pockets.

In some areas of CA tax is nearly 10%.  Sometimes other local taxes are included.

Amazon is starting to collect taxes on many things.
I know that WA and PA sales are now taxed, no matter where the seller is located.
I'm not surprised CA Prime is taxed...likely more taxes  to come.

california sales tax rates vary by area......it can be anywhere from 7.25% to 10.25% depending on where you are living or shopping. santa monica, long beach, compton, and others have some of the highest tax rates in california.

They have to charge based on the laws of any given state, so I'd look at the state sales tax laws first.

Mine doesn't come up unti January, but I know that as of this last January I was not charged sales tax (I'm not in CA).    If my state changes the sales tax law to require it, then they will start charging sales tax.
