Interesting that Anthropic is currently preparing its equity Initial Public Offering for mid-October when it could raise an estimated $100 billion.  Coincidence,  or not.......let's create some noise.

Is this doom and gloom chat really necessary?  CBS did no favors in reporting the supposed "warning".  It only instills more fear and consternation on top of wars, contaminated food, deadly viruses, etc.  Where are the positive stories?  It seems like the media is notorious in keeping us under a black cloud of adversity.

I believe it.

I am currently fighting to get a human to void an obvious billing error for a federally covered annual medical screening. No one can seem to do it until the other computer says so.

Computer chips run our houses, cars, billing, employers, healthcare, financial systems, etc.

When we are all bankrupted by AI and the utilities are shut off, how long do we think this generation is going to last?

We lost our electricity for an hour at work and the boss shut the place down because no could figure out how to take a restaurant order with a pen and paper. 

I am not kidding.

I am so grateful to be on my way out with more behind me then ahead these days, I can't even tell you.

This reminds me of the Y2K hysteria twenty six years ago.  People were going bonkers thinking the world was going to stop on January 1, 2000.

The very large banking institution I worked for sent out a detailed memo, telling us to remind clients that it was fiction. 

Corporate very much feared that there would be a run on cash...

Our ATMs continued to work properly.

I saw your original post sometime back about this. I thank you for the alert, btw, and I'm sorry you are still trying to get resolution.

I am a fan of technology and I also underestand what the downside can be. We just dropped a nephew at college and as a robot engineering major, he has several ethics lectures to attend. On some small scale, that gives me hope.

More than any kind of human extinction event, I worry about the sabotaging of the systems we use to deliver the level of lifestyle we are used to now. I worry particularly about water and electric grids.....over the summer we had a confirmed case of water grid sabotage by foreign hackers in a few states. I think that was just the beginning.

Until we are on more solid ground, I'm not flying either.

Y2K was about humans not preparing and programming the computers correctly.

With AI, the human is removed or severely restricted, and the computers program themselves.  

Way different scenarios...

@Lakelife62 Thank you. I am still fighting, although I think it will be resolved shortly. Can't have a human running the billing offices anymore, can we?

If my EOB said I had a prostate exam, they would insist on billing that to me too, because the paperwork said so.

We have lost our minds and common sense!

I remember a long time ago a comedy skit where the Father's newspaper had holes in it so he couldn't read the disturbing articles.  I think it was Ozzie Nelson.  Wish it were possible today.  Sorry.

Agree 1000%!  So glad I'm 76 and truly wish I were older and even closer to the end.  The world as I knew it is gone and have no wish to be part of the new world.

As for AI, I think humans have created something they will not be able to control.  See the movie "I, Robot."
