I agree with the OP. Obviously "again" isn't going to ruin my day. But I just find it odd, in an interview or during a presentation, when someone starts with "again," even though I didn't hear him/her say it the first time. I usually figure that I wasn't paying attention or the speaker was just driving a point or referencing an earlier conversation.
I guess I find it odd because it would never occur to me to use the word "again," if I hadn't made the point before in the same conversation. Guess I'm more literal than most.

I would find it odd too. But I've never heard anyone use "again" as a filler word.

Filler words and phrases truly annoy me. My husbands filler word is "there"; he once used it 11x in 3 sentences---drives me nuts! His aunt had the very bad habit of throwing "it is" after every sentence; she just could not end the sentence and be done with her statement. No matter how many times her daughters brought it to her attention, she said it for the entire 35 years I knew her until she passed.

@Pearlee wrote:I'm with the OP. Lori Goldstein uses it ridiculously - practically every other word. And the OP is right, she uses it mostly saying things for the first time - it isn't even really "again."
When I first began watching QVC back in the late 90's/early 2000s, the word every single host seemed to used was "phenomenal." Everything was a phenomenon. Now I don't watch many of the presentations. I just surf around the channels and if something catches my eye, I watch, so I didn't hear the "again."
However, while you are on the Lori Goldstein subject, I was just wondering if I am the only one who thinks her clothes are extremely unflattering? Even the most slender model there looks 20 pounds heavier. And, I still don't get adding a chiffon bottom to a top that doesn't need nor demand this addition. Don't mean to offend, but serously, I just shake my head anytime I see her fashions.

Thanks for your respose. My sister shared that she just came from a conference call at her office. She was a few minutes late joining the discussion so when she heard the host say, "Again" and continue with her discussion of business, my sister and asked what she had missed, since "again" means something is being repeated. The host went on with what she was saying, unaware that using "again" to start a new topic is confusing. So, yes, unfortunately, this happens in the business world as well.

AGAIN!!!!!!!! Sooooooooo Annoying. Lori, can u get a new catch-phrase? It's obviously used to get the viewers' attention --- like a pause. Lori needs a NEW script - it's sooooo repetitive.

I don't understand what we're talking about. I don't watch Lori,so.....
I don't hear "AGAIN" used in any way other than how it is intended.

@SahmIam Lori Goldstein prefaces almost every sentence of hers when she is describing the features of an item (her selling points) with "and again..." even if she has not mentioned that point before. "And again" should be used to re-emphasize something already stated, but her point hasn't yet been stated. Example: And again, this is cut on the bias to be more slimming." Well, she hadn't mentioned that so why the "and again"? She prefaces almost every single sentence with "And again." It's very annoying IMO.
Where are the QVC people who are supposed to coaching these vendors on how to make a presentation? Surely they hear this too if they watch any shows/videos of the presentations!

You can respond to a comment without being rude. You could have said something like " No, it doesn't bother me. But differnt things bug different people."
