ADVICE NEEDED FOR OUT OF CONTROL TEENAGER

My co-worker's 16 yr old son is out of control, she's a single mom. This kid is smoking pot, ditching school, tagging public property, forging notes and he's on probation for being an accessory to burglary. My friend is at her wit's end. She told me she almost hopes he get arrested so he can do some real time & get a reality check. Any advice?
