I so understand your frustration. I spent most of my life as an educator at the college level fighting for older buildings to be renovated to be ADA compliant and for classes to be scheduled in different buildings if a student with a disability signed up for a course that was not accessible. Over time, several of us arranged to have accommodations for blind and hard of hearing students too.
Imagine my surprise when, as a senior citizen who needs such accommodations, I have found dermatologists and gynecologists who expect folks like me to climb outside stairs to get to second floor entrances. One place did install a stairlift after I mentioned that I have one in my townhouse. It is a great answer for this particular building.
Most recently, my accountant lost his office and moved to a building with no access but stairs to his third floor office. He has gone out of his way to set up phones, and intercoms in the lobby to help those of us who cannot climb stairs and has required that his staff come up and down stairs to transport tax documents. His partner in the office is annoyed, telling me that his office does not have to be ADA Compliant. Honestly, I appreciate what my accountant has done with this recent move. I believe that next year will be better or I might have to find someone else.
I would not make myself too upset this time, but I would make sure the folks sponsoring the event know how you feel. Maybe they will be more sensitive to those with limitations next time.

If this is truly a major concern for people I am quite certain it would have been called to someone's attention and addressed long before now. Many people are disabled or have mobility issues and I am sure some would have spoken up and reported their concerns.

I'm so grateful for golf carts my grandchildren's school uses for events at the football field. We've been there twice in the last year. Once to see our granddaughter perform in their state championship band performance and more recently for grandson's graduation. Could not have made either event if they hadn't been so accommodating. I'll admit tho, it's a little embarrassing.

@RetRN I just found out about the location for the performance yesterday

Folks can get as indignant as they want, but the ADA is not a one size fits all sort of thing. Not every building or location is required to accommodate everyone for a variety of reasons. There are exclusions, exemptions and grandfathering, as well as limits beyond which some building are not expected to exceed in attempting to retrofit.

@stevieb Grandfathering this location does not fall under that this is the first year that have attempted a production outdoors at this location. It is not indoors it is outdoors

I would start with the town or city where this is being held. I'd explain the situation and ASK if the venue was breaking any ADA laws or regulations. This is about the venue, not the production company.

I'm not understanding the issue with the Theater company. They don't own the venue, do they? If not, they are simply, in essence, contractors at the venue. Maybe they shouldn't have contracted a venue that wasn't accessible to you, but they can't do anything about the physical space where they did choose to stage their production.
