Re: ADA Compliance Rant a head

It doesn't matter about the freaking golf carts already!

Even if the OP had a ride in one she still would have a problem using her walker on the floor inside the greenhouse.

Nor could she just sit in one blocking the view.

Which, btw, is an ADA requirement. Wheelchair etc. sections in venues cannot block the view of other attendees.

Was this directed at me, @Cakers3? I didn't think carts were workable in this situation at any point.

 @I am still oxox

If the OP has on-going concerns (I see it coming) about accessing venues that may be difficult on a walker, perhaps she should consider the purchase of a mobility scooter.  They can be easily disassembled and stored in the trunk of a car, then reassembled on site.

I somehow ended up with three scooters and can by myself assemble or disassemble one in 30 seconds.  I've ridden one to see the sights on several trips including Yellowstone, Glacier National Parks and throughout Alberta, Canada.  I also rented one to use on a cruise to Alaska.  They make a travel experience 100% more pleasant.

Wouldn't be surprised that other people complained about the situation.

Re: ADA Compliance Rant a head

@Kachina624     Before my sister died we bought 2 transport chairs. She kept one and kept one in my car for her. We eventually purchased a scooter from QVC. It came apart in 3 sections. The battery was the heaviest part but I could manage to get it out of the trunk and together. This was almost 20 years ago. I am sure they have improved. The OP might want to think about buying a. scooter. Everyplace is not going to be accessible to someone who has mobility issues. That is just a fact of life.  A scooter would give her freedom to go places and attend events that are not accessible to her now.

just to let you know. Scooters and power,chairs are available from Medicare for free, or fees depending on choice.  You need a drs rx they sent to medical place, and it goes from there. I am in the middle of getting a power chair.   Before they order, an agent from company comes to home to make sure you get right appliance.  Scooters aren't always recommended, as I found out. I was denied one due to my back, getting in and out easily.  Also, scooters aren't real stable, there is no adjustment for legs, or your back.  I cannot bend legs as needed for scooter comfortably. Also, it hurts to press the power on and go handle without pain in arm, my hands are weak with RA. So, scooter is out fro me. But they have tons of other selections. I have a secondary insurance. So even the ones with small costs, my secondary insurance will pick up.   Lot to consider even when getting a mobility device!!!
