I am going later this afternoon to my sister's house for our annual Thanksgiving dinner/weekend.

My sister lost her husband this past September to pancreatic cancer and I was uncertain as to whether she would continue hosting after his loss.  Another sister told me that she had said right away that she was continuing the tradition because it was something her husband looked forward to every year.

I thought about what to say at grace this year and came across what I think is the nicest expression of thanks I have ever seen.

"For the food before us,

For the family beside us,

For the friends among us,

For the love between us,

For thy blessings upon us--

Heavenly Father we are truly grateful.

Amen"

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Love the ones you're with while you can!

@781Florist   Very nice blessing, thank you for sharing.  I'm sorry for your families loss.  Maybe this is healing for your sister.

Losing several friends/past coworkers to Pancreatic cancer has been difficult.

That's a beautiful blessing! It will be hard for your sister but she needs this. As a widow, I can tell you that our family traditions were healing for me after my husband passed away. In a time of so many changes, I needed those traditions to stay the same, even when we were missing someone very special at the dinner table. We all grieve in our own way but I'm sure your sister needs this and she will love having you all be with her this Thanksgiving to help fill the silence that the absence of her husband has brought to her life.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I'm so sorry for your loss!
