Hi sylvia: RM Spotted Fever is carried by ticks if they carry the bacteria that causes the illness. At least that is what we were told in our jaunts to Colorado.

Interesting. I'm not a hiker, I don't spend any time in the great outdoors. My idea of outside is sitting on my balcony with a glass of iced tea by my side. And I gave up red meat a while ago. So, I'm safe.

A friend recently told me that her Aunt contracted Lyme's disease. The Aunt lives in a very upscale area noted for it woody setting, but also with an abundance of deer. Aunt is a avid gardener and apparently encounter the tick through her outdoor activity. Luckily she was diagnosed at early onset.
I am also always on the look out for ticks as I live in the woods. The CDC posts excellent information on their website of the different types of ticks and diseases they can cause. I have heard of the lone star tick and that it can cause a red meat allergy though the CDC does not make mention of the meat allergy symptom.
