A really good high class scam email re Chase Debit and Liquid Cards

It's been a busy and med-related sleepy time for me, so hadn't opened my email in over 24 hours.  One email received was purportedly from Chase bank and asked that those having received their new Debit or Liquid cards confirm by contacting Chase at ************ as the confirmation period is due to expire.  Several options for confirming were provided.

We took a good look at this and contacted Chase, as it appeared to be a real smooth job by professionals out to scam the public.  Indeed, this is what we were told.

Just a reminder that if you are a Chase customer, it's always a good idea to call Chase to discuss the email with them.  This is the second one we've received in a year and Chase has been great on those occasions when we had to contact them regarding like emails.

Hi Rebecca,

Sounds like a strange one indeed. I've gotten debit and credit cards from our banks, but never got anything about an "expiration period". That would pop up the Ole red flag in these tired old brain cells for sure.

Seems like some keep looking for easy money. I know once I went on Medicare there were a lot more phone calls from scammers. Said here many times I like to play with them to entertain myself. It also uses up some of the time they might be trying to scam another old person. My wife gets a kick out of listening to me play with these jerks.

Best to you and a Happy Thanksgiving from,

There is a Bank of the West scam going on too.  I received a call saying my debit card had been restricted to within my home state and I had to call to confirm info before I could use it out of state.  Instead, I called BOW's phone number.  They never called me and I was the 2ndf one who reported this scam to them.....lucky for me, my cell kept the caller's phone number and it was the same on BOW had on file too.

I received an email from American Express which was suspicious ... stated that because I have not changed my password and some other information that I should click the link & change it all now..... I deleted the email because it seemed like a scam to me.

Hi John!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Cindy and your many feline pals.  I must share with you my tale of setting up for one Thanksgiving.  We were hosting the entire side of my Dad's family, plus a family from Australia (the husband of whom I shared a project at work, so most of our communication had been by telephone).  Needless to say, my husband, daughter and I were quite busy that day getting our buffet set-up and ready.  I had saved one end of our large diningroom table for snacks and appetizers, so my daughter and I set about setting this up last.

As we were tidying up and seeing to some last minute duties before everyone arrived, I noticed I hadn't seen Shasta, our female Burmese cat for some time.  My daughter and I headed for the front of the house to look for her, as this is where the sun shines for nice cat naps.  Well, we took one step into the diningroom and there was Shasta, up on the diningroom table right next to the glass bowl with Doritos in it.  She looked up at us, then stuck her little head down into the bowl (Burmese are small cats).  She looked for and found a Dorito with one point sticking up, bit it gently, jumped down on the floor and proceeded to eat the whole chip.  We thought she was done, but No!  Up she went for two more Doritos and never did she touch anything but the chip she wanted.  We were blessed to have her for 21 years.  She's been gone now 3 years and every Thanksgiving I recall with great fondness those really funny moments when she HAD to have those Doritos!

John, you sound exactly like my husband!  Oh my, but the language he uses with some of these jerks!  He gets a kick out of it, too.

***

The best to you and Cindy this day.  Keep yourselves safe, as we all venture into winter.  Hope Mother Nature gently brings winter on to the state of Nebraska.

With warmest regards,

Rebecca

Re: A really good high class scam email re Chase Debit and Liquid Cards

I don't think a week goes by that I don't get a phishing email from someone pretending to be Paypal and I need to confirm some purchase or my account has been frozen or some stupid reason I'm supposed to click on their links.    I always forward the emails to Paypal's fraud dept, and get a nice email back from them, telling me they appreciate my doing so.     Most fake emails are pretty easy to spot, but the best thing to do is ignore any links in the email and just go log into your account elsewhere to check on things.
