A problem with our adoption of Dash......

Saturday Steven and I went to pick up the new puppy Dash. We were all happy and excited. We heard nothing about Dash for the past couple of weeks. We did call to find out how his infection in his ear was and we were told the infection was much better and he is doing very well. Libby had a B-day party so not to interrupt that Steve and I took a day off to go and pick him up. [we were to go in on Saturday's this month] We called to tell the rescue to let them know we were coming and the girl who picked up the phone said Okay and hung up. We got there before the rescue opened so we could be home in time to pick Libby up. So we had coffee and breakfast in a dinner near by. Finally it was time to go pick Dash up, we go to the desk and the girl says wait a moment please. We are kept waiting longer then a "Moment "or a minute. We recognized the manager he came out to say that our puppy was adopted out by mistake by a couple a few weeks ago. We were shocked... finally when Steve found his voice he said why didn't you tell us this what is wrong with you people? I have a little girl that is waiting for this dog. Well we have other dogs here for adoption. My husband says I would not adopt another animal from you people I do not trust any of you. And I do not like your antics. We left, we got into the car and I said to Steve who was still angry .. What do we tell Libby and Tanya? We tell them the truth. I will never forget Libby's face when we told her. And Tanya's voice when we told her over the phone. [she started back to college a few days before] I wonder why if this was a mistake why did wait so long to tell us? And to think we both took a day off and drove to the shelter for nothing. Libby who is so unselfish and so kind said Mom Dad let us hope Dash got a wonderful "forever home" Libby is something else. I think my girl is AWERSOME! Have a good week everyone and there pet kids that own them!

I'm so sorry that happened to you and your family. I hope Dash got a good family, but probably not a better home than what you could have provided.

I second what Indy said. The conduct of the rescue is shameful at best and unethical at worst.

I third what Indy said. I am so sorry, that is awful. Please give Libby a hug for me and tell her it just means that another dog that needs you even more will find you.

Re: A problem with our adoption of Dash......

That is really a heartbreaker, I know how excited your entire family was to adopt Dash and what a lucky boy he would have been. But,honestly, there are bigger things at work here, I think. I've seen so many strange twists and turns when adopting animals. It's almost like there is a guardian angel for animals putting them where they are supposed to be. I think you're going to see something like that soon and you will say "so that's what was supposed to happen."

PS I think your girl Libby is awesome,too.

Re: A problem with our adoption of Dash......

You said Dash had a blue collar with his name and your last name on it, but the rescue people still gave him to someone else (with a different last name, presumably, or that's a really big coincidence)? I don't blame your husband for being mad, the rescue people made a big booboo there.

We applied for a pup we both liked the look of, but the rescue people told us he'd already been adopted (they just hadn't got round to taking his photo offline). So I chose a different dog (from a different org) and we couldn't be happier. The first dog was not meant to be ours, but this second guy is perfect. Your perfect dog is out there waiting patiently for you to find him.

I tend to never give up, so take that into consideration when you read this ... {#emotions_dlg.angry}

I would go back and have them call the people who adopted Dash and inquire how he's getting on and are they SURE they will be keeping him. If not, another family wants him.

Yeah, I know, it's highly unlikely ...... but what if ....... ???? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Matty...

My heart goes out to you,Steve,Libby and Tanya. What a cruel and despicable thing to happen to all of you! {#emotions_dlg.angry}

I'd like to suggest that you contact Grey2K...the wonderful organization that I told you about that's located in Arlington,MA...and let them know what happened and give them the name of the place that you dealt with.

I'm willing to bet that they'll help you to find a reputable place to rescue a greyhound from. Their phone number is 781-488-3526. Here are some contact names for you:

Christine Dorchak/President & General Council

Carey Theil /Executive Director

Amelia Cook/Director of Research & Advocacy

Dana Demetrio/Executive Assistant

Hope this info helps.Smile
