My 3 year old terrier mix Josie (westie/poodle mix) jumped on the couch a few days ago and completely tore her cruciate ligament. According to the vet, the only option is surgery to put pins in the bone and lace the tibia and fibia back together until scar tissue forms enough to support the knee. There will be a 3 month recovery period. Cost of the surgery -- around $1800.00
This would put a financial hardship on me right now (single mom with 2 teenage sons) and the worst part is that the vet said the other leg may do the same thing at some point due to the anatomy of her knee.
This dog is so special to me. She's got personality plus and she sleeps in my bed with me every night. Some people have said of course you have to try to get her fixed, and others have said I should just have her put down. It would kill me to put her to sleep, but part of me feels like it would be irresponisible to put so much money into it when I am responsible for my family. Any input from you other animal lovers would be very much appreciated.
