I know some of you work for UPS.

Do you know whether the UPS shipping locations (from the company itself - I don't mean the UPS stores) will be open on January 2nd?

Thanks in advance.

Jan. 2 is a recognized holiday for all of UPS shipping facilities, loading docks, warehouses, truck routes, deliveries and pickups, etc. First business day is January 3. I needed to know the same info you asked and I found it on the UPS web site and also double checked with the UPS driver I see nearly daily.  Hope that helps you.

Technically January first is the paid holiday but since it falls on Sunday, they will be observing and giving their employees Monday January second as their paid day off for the holiday, and their locations will be closed.

Just for future reference, New Years Eve is also a paid holiday and UPS locations are closed and most deliveries are not made on that day as well. UPS gives their employees both New Year's Eve and New Years Day off (closed, and paid holidays) because they work such long hours during 'peak' which runs from Thanksgiving until Christmas ( with the advent of internet shopping, it actually runs much longer both before and after these days!). Employees cannot schedule any vacation time off or take days off during 'peak' season, many work a lot of overtime during this period, so it is kind of their reward for such a hard season.

Someone should tell the Weather Channel!

A lot of private places work on state & federal holidays, which is why I asked about UPS.  The carpenters installing cabinets at a home across the street are working today.   Stores were open yesterday and today.  Many times private companies/enterprises don't observe the government holidays.

Hence, my question about UPS which I'm grateful to the people who responded (and saved me a trip down there today to ship some things).   I don't blame the Weather Channel for saying what it did because a lot of people are working today.
