DH and I were out exercising yesterday, before we knew it, we were right in the middle of a hornet's nest. Got chased, dh got stung on the arm.
He had a bite on his ankle from a previous insect bite/sting, within 10 minutes of the wasp sting, this previous bite started burning like it was on fire, ankle started swelling, and it turned a dark red/purple.
Wakes up this morning with his ankle and foot full of fluid. They (doc) put a rub on him that has medication in it to draw out toxins/ poisons...iced it, put him on Benedryl and Ibuprofin. Has to keep his foot elevated and ice on and off all day. If swelling doesn't go down, he has to go back in tomorrow morning.
I'm telling you, we didnt' see it coming..we were on a sidewalk in a residential area. There were bushes hanging over the fence onto the sidewalk which is where the nest must have been.
They said a new sting/bite, can affect an older sting/bite like that, it is kind of a double-dose of toxins/poison.
Be careful while out and about, especially around trees and bushes!
