That's so neat, Poodlepet2-- it's the most wonderful city to spend any amount of time in, isn't it?

I've never tried to locate King Cake anywhere else-- for some reason it was one thing that never appealed to me very much. Although I like the idea of finding the "baby".  But, Noel7 has a wonderful sounding recipe for a stuffed version that she put up that sounds fabulous...

Poodlepet2, I just saw your fanciful post, and long live the krewe of Q!   Sounds like an enterprise we could all get behind!   Thanks for stirring all these great memories-- the only other time I ever spend a lot of time thinking about N.O. is when people are going there for the first time, and ask for suggestions.  It's fun, isn't it, to point them in the right direction?

I do have a pal from those days who bought a condo Uptown and still livees there, but she's so blase by now that we don't really reminisce much about the joys of N.O. and what you can do there...

Fun conversation, thanks!

Oznell,  I have never looked into this, but I have heard the baby represents Baby Jesus....I am thinking that perhaps before plastic was invented, perhaps there were tiny wooden renderings.....but in my mother's days -20s-30's on, guilty covered gold beans were used-and in very wealthy homes, they had real gold beans that were passed down.....it makes me wonder if that's where the idea of "Add a Bead" necklaces came fromSmiley Happy

I believe there is a little anthropologist in all of us!

Now we have to choose a theme song.....hmmm...Rex already has "If Ever I cease to Love".......I move that we choose some Neville Brothers-or Professor Long Hair!  Can somebody bring one on the Mummer's String Bands down? We need music and they need to stay in practice- and maybe they can loan us some costumes!

Irma!!!  Oh yes! Now I am really in the mood! I'm going to see if Alexa has any Gras music!  And of course, Dr. John!

I left the area in 85: when we're you there?
