@Toppers3 wrote:Merry Christmas, Everyone!
I couldn't help but share the laughter and the frustration at all of this as I read through your posts!
We stopped trying to put up an artificial tree, because of having the lights played with and the cords chewed on by our various kitties over the years.
That, plus they'd either try and climb the tree or try and pull it down.
They would also take off the bottom ornaments and play with them, or pull off the ornament hooks and you all know how dangerous that can be.
I also had a plastic Christmas village chewed on, and I tried to salvage it the best that I could, too.
Hi @Noel7,
You have your hands full with a Tortie.

They're supposed to be as feisty and as fun-loving as tabbies.
Our girl is a tabby, and if it's one thing that tabbies do well, it's play and get into mischief.
They're very affectionate and curious, and they like to be right in the middle of everything, to see what's going on.
Just look at Irishgirl's kitty. That's right up a tabby's alley, climbing in a Christmas tree!

Hi @Toppers3 , it's so good to see you!
Taffy is a tortoiseshell Persian, and I knew nothing about them when I fell in love with her little face. Good thing, because I might not have brought her home, since then I've heard wild stories about torties. We really love her, she is DD's soul mate kitty and DH's buddy, a bit of all that to me. She's loving, funny and very gentle once I got her to stop playing predator with the smaller cat.
She comes when I call her. We call her Nurse Taffy because if anyone is sick, she stays with them with a worried look on her face.
I love the description of those tabbies!
Merry Christmas to you Toppers ![]()

Hi @Noel7,
It's nice to see you posting, too! ![]()
Merry Christmas to you too, and to all of our members here!
I worry when I don't see you for awhile in particular, that you're not feeling well. I hope that you're doing alright. ![]()
Your kitty sounds beautiful!
I can only imagine how cute she is too, being a Persian, and then having the Tortie markings along with it. ![]()
Our little mix-master could probably pass for either a Calico or a Tortie except for her stripes. She has clear striping that makes her a tabby, although in some areas her stripes are muddled with patches and spots.
I'm sure if you asked her personally, she'd admit to being unique! LOL!! She's quite the character.
Last night while I was getting dinner together, I thought that she was walking over to her food bowl to have a snack, but she took a detour instead and went over to the trash can and decided to get up on her hind legs and just pull it down, knocking it all over on to the floor.
I was not happy about it, as it contained raw meat wrappers. I think that was what she smelled, and what she wanted to check out from the trash, so there I was, wiping up the floor and cleaning it up.
When I interrogated her and told her that it, "Wasn't like you to do this kind of thing anymore...," she just looked at me and chattered away, purring her little heart out all of the while. ![]()

The only difference between a tortie and a calico is the white patches which are a separate gene. All calico cats are torties with white. I have a tortie tabby AKA torbie too. Since the gene for red is always tabby and never solid the only difference between a tortie and torbie or tortie tabby is if the black gene is tabby or self ( solid).
There are also different tabby patterns, which sometimes confuse people. Classic tabby, like my Thor is a swirl pattern, the most common is mackeral tabby ( stripes) and the third is ticked tabby ( my tortie is a ticked torbie). I actually have all three of the tabby patterns in my cats.

I hope your village wasn't too destroyed, Noel!
I love Christmas villages. I used to have a really nice one, then moved and sold it all.
Now I wished I hadn't. I'd like to get another one someday.

The village is in good shape, just a little messy at the moment.
I hope you do get another village, there's just something so nice about them, I never get tired of looking at it.

I find the differences to be so beautiful, along with being so fascinating, @jaxs mom. ![]()
Ours is a mackeral tabby, with dark brown-striped fur. She has really pretty markings. She has white and red/brindle in her fur, along with dark peppery spots and splotches and stripes.
She'll be 19 this upcoming year, but she acts like a kitten, and she certainly "looks for trouble." That's one of my nicknames for her, too. ![]()

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!
Oh my goodness! Best 'cat in tree' pic ever. When I first saw it I thought it was from the internet. I saw something like that once that was turned into a meme with the byline from the cat, something like - Really? You're standing there with the camera. Some help here?
Yeah, he actually lays in the tree and sleeps @chickenbutt. He climbs up the middle pole and then lays himself out on the branch. Believe it or not, he has only broken a few ornaments over the years. They used to try and stop him but with a determined cat, there really is no stopping them. She did have to get a new tree though because after 2 yrs of sitting on the same branch, it broke off. He is not as thin as he was in the pic so they got a sturdier tree. My daughter is over at my house now but I see if she will get another pic. It is even more hysterical because he is so "fluffy". I think was taken about 5 or 6 yrs ago because this was her first apt.
