A very metaphysical friend of mine would say this could be what they call a "past life bleed-through". If I went along with that, I'd say he definitely lived in the 1920s.

Poor little boy? Really?
I think it's more damaging to try to force any child to be something they're not.
Example .... My sister is left handed, and when she was small my mom kept trying to make her use her right hand for writing.
As you might imagine, it didn't work. My sister is left-handed.

@Tinkrbl44 What I said was in no way related to that.

@Trinity11 @Tinkrbl44 I agree! my granddaughter is qualified for MENSA, but wouldn't join, as she she never wanted to catagorize herself. Her call. We called her an Old Soul when she was a toddler. lol. No kidding at a young age she just came up with all kinds of things, no kid her age might know. We surmised she was reading it. We don't know how, but she was. Her mom just let her be..she seemed wise at 6 . She was on you tube teaching her self to speak, Japanese, German and Spanish. She water colored. Did award winning animein grade school, and sang. Right now she does Bavarian Folk Dancing for exercise, lol. She's not Bavarian. When she was five, she was crocheting, then knitting hamster blankets, her dog a blanket, and a vest for herself. She taught herself guitar, viola, and many other ancient instruments I hadn't heard of. lol. It was usually something old. She always was good around adults, and kids as well. She never wore fashion and didn't care. Although she preferred thrifting for vintage items. She is in mid 20's now, out of college a few years, currently in her career last 4 years. She always had nostalgic tastes. She decided all these tastes for herself. While she was listening to off the wall ancient chant albums,Rachmaninov. Mahler. and all genres music. As a child Her family was into the Ramones. Nirvana. But she likes that too. lol. She reads hard copy books, and plays vinyl, on an old phonograph. We never know what lurks in the mind of kids, lol. Some just are old souls, go there own way. And still manage to be interactive with their peers, be kind and good citizens. Jmho. I am so glad my daughter just let her be own self. My daughter did want some other things for her, but letting her be herself was best in this case.

I agree @Sooner . Children do not come out of the womb wanting to wear tuxedos and 1920's clothing. The same with the natural fabrics etc. All of it was introduced to him at a very young age and he embraced it. Being left handed is comparing apples to oranges. A very sweet young man but seems to be lost in a fantasy world.

@Oznell wrote:Yes, @Judaline , I thought he physically resembled a youthful version of James Dunn, helped along by the retro clothes. But, every eye is different-- I showed Gilbert's picture to my husband, who thought he was cool and somehow reminded him of Winston Churchill.... ? So go figure...
HAHAHAHA But it's so true. What is it Poirot used to say? "all is not as it seems." We definitely all see things differently.

@Trinity11 I could not have stated it better.
