50 Years Ago, JFK Assassination

Today is the 50th annversary of John Kennedy's assassination. I was a very young (16) freshman in college, driving to campus with my boyfrend for my afternoon classes. We heard the announcement of the shooting on the radio. Stunned, I went to class and told the other students that the president had been shot. They didn't believe me. Our instructor came in and sent us home. Back in the dorm, we learned JFK had died. We were in a state of shock. Between sobs was absolute silence. The rest of that week has always been a blur in my mind. Someone said that was the day that our innocence and idealism ended. For those old enough to remember, where were you on that fateful day?
