If they were too stupid to secure the item from accidents, they might not have even bothered to see, if it was covered by their policy. I would not be surprised if you had to have a rider for something like this @sunshine45
The mother is going to try to get her homeowners insurance to cover it,,good luck with that

The "snip" you posted is from an article 4 days ago when the news first broke. If you have bothered to "snip" the next paragraph you would see that the family received the letter from the City's insurance company.. Every subsequent article indicated that the city turned it over to their insurance company.

There is no mention of an insurance company in this article. it is current. The only mention of insurance, is from the mother ,saying she will try to get her homeowners insurance to cover the damage

Sorry lady, "you break it you buy it." She was sitting there not paying attention and it took her a while to even notice what happened. I can't muster up a whole lot of sympathy for her. This happened in my city and I'm over seeing her on TV!
