I'll disagree with that.
The shipping charge is an important revenue component. There's an assumption that Free Shipping will lead to more purchases and that's not necessarily the case.
In fact, even with Free Shipping days during the third quarter, units shipped actually declined along with shipping revenue.
The problem is much more complex and difficult to solve (in my opinion.)

I'm leaning toward thinking things could be too far gone. Free shipping alone would not salvage this operation. The debt is too large and the costs are too great. Both income and the customer contingent continue to falter. They need a wholesale change of their operational model. They need to streamline costs, especially those associated with their dated and antiquated television operation, limit repetition, enhance variety and seek a new normal. They keep doing the same things over and over with a minor tweak here or there and it simply isn't working. They're losing customers, so clearly the same brands 'that sell' pitched in half hour presentations ten or so times a day three and four days a week are obviously not selling enough, nor or they interesting enough to garner new customers. The current 'entertainment' model is more annoying to many viewers than it is entertaining, and really, between HSN and QVC, seems doubtful that this company needs so many media outlets all selling the same things.

I agree. Free Shipping certainly isn't the cure all answer.
I think they need focus on which outlet they want (should they survive.) The operating costs of an elaborate broadcast are unsustainable.
If they are gaining traction via social media and streaming focus on that along with the website and app.
If you can't grow revenue, you need to slash operating expenses.
Very dismal outlook for all the employees impacted, unfortunately.

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes "If you can't grow revenue, you need to slash operating expenses."
Agree. A retailer cannot keep raising prices. Cutting expenses, e.g., hosts/sets/jaunts, etc. need to come into play.
Also agree that shipping charges are a big source of revenue and "free" shipping is not an incentive to everyone, including myself.
I don't expect QVC/HSN to be on air for more than a couple of more years.

What about QVC's very generous return policy. I will bet that many items have been used and worn and can't be resold.

Personally i am rooting for them to make it. A lot of people depend on Q for their employment and the areas surrounding West Chester. Unemployment is already skyrocketing through the roof
October was the worst month for layoffs in 20 years.
Companies slashed roles to save money, pared back pandemic-era hires, and planned ahead for artificial intelligence, according to the global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
Employers announced 153,074 cuts last month, compared to 55,597 cuts in October 2024. Last month’s figure was “the highest total for October in over 20 years, and the highest total for a single month in the fourth quarter since 2008,” Andy Challenger, chief revenue officer for Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said in a report Thursday.

I am, too, but I am not optimistic.

@kaydee50 We've been hearing this for years. Yet, every year they are still here.
