Since the conspiracy theorists and fear mongerers are hard at work trying to sell the idea of a stolen third term, therefore, violating the Constitution, I thought I'd give you some background. Presidents from Washington to FDR had the option to run for a third term constitutionally. Some ran and some didn't. FDR is the only President to win four terms, though his health prevented him from presiding in a fourth term. He was President for three full terms. It wasn't until after FDR's presidency that in 1947 the 22nd amendment was added limiting the Presidency to no more than two consecutive terms. It was ratified in 1951. Hence, those of you who seem to think our forefathers placed the two term limit into the Constitution, you are blatantly wrong. You can draw your own conclusions as to why the amendment came about. However, anyone who thinks an amendment can be accomplished in record time doesn't understand the process. If it took four years to ratify the 22nd amendment, you can imagine how long it would take to delete it. The fact of the matter is NO ONE is trying to do anything with the 22nd Amendment, but the fear mongerers certainly have tried their best to make you believe it.
