@shoekitty  Luna is John Legend's oldest daughter's name.  So I am assuming both eaglets are female. 

Maybe Luna is just a smaller female.

Smaller females are still taller than males.

If Luna turns out to be a male, the name can be changed to Lunatic.

Double Trouble and Food Comas…

This morning, Sandy stood up for 31 seconds while its gears were in reverse, backing up to relieve itself. This is a developmental point where the eaglets will be standing up on their feet for longer periods of time.

Both Luna and Sandy are also working out with short bursts of wingersizing! Shadow is going to need to keep his distance when those wingers start up fast and furious! Shadow also needs to watch where he puts his tail feathers. Sandy has yanked at them more than once!

At afternoon mealtime, both eaglets are not holding back, making sure each gets their share…and when mom isn’t fast enough, they both thought maybe they could do a better job!

Turns out it isn’t as easy as mom makes it look.

Sandy and Luna are waddling and at times walking around the nest, finding the shady spots, playing with fluff n sticks, or sometimes dad’s tail, bird watching, and whatever other mischief they can get into.

They are both eating well, we consistently see huge crops on these eaglets, maybe bigger than we’ve ever seen! 7 fish were delivered to the nest, and nearly all of them were devoured before the next fish flew in.

Our chicks are now 4 weeks old and weigh between 5 and 7 pounds. They are entering into the peak growth period, and Sandy and Luna are going to be HUNGRY! Jackie and Shadow, get your fishing gear ready!

After a big meal, the eaglets gathered at the back of the nest for some sibling bonding. Luna played “got your tongue” with Sandy, or perhaps Luna thought it was something to eat! Soon after, both with LARGE crops fell into a heavy food coma, and they napped for quite some time.

Their feathers are just about growing in front of our eyes, and right on schedule! Sandy is showing them off with their wing over Luna during nap time.

Today was a wonderful day in the eagle’s nest. Make sure you tune in often; you won’t recognize them in another week!

Gratitude and Hope…

It is day 69 of our monumental fundraiser to preserve Jackie and Shadow’s foraging area from being destroyed by luxury housing and a marina.

The property, known as Moon Camp, is the last undisturbed shoreline on the lake. Two nonprofits have joined forces to permanently preserve the nearly 63 acres because it is an integral part of Jackie and Shadow’s ecosystem and the area’s biodiversity.

Why should we care about that? Biodiversity is responsible for the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the medicines we take.

Big Bear Valley, CA is a biodiverse hotspot – it is the 7th in our country and is considered a “high priority” globally. It has rare habitats with ancient soils and endemic plant species found nowhere else in the world. It represents a critical, fragile ecosystem within the San Bernardino National Forest.

What happens here does not stay here. It impacts our entire country, hemisphere and the planet.

We have raised $2,305,067 in a very short time. This number is mostly made up of small donations, BUT I am happy to report that we have received $50,000 from Dr. Pamela Miller, $50,000 from the Golden Rule Giving Fund, and $77,000 from an anonymous donor.

I would also like to thank all of you ‘warriors’ on behalf of FOBBV and SBMLT. You are amazing, and we are working hard for your investment! Jackie and Shadow are worth it, and so are you.
