The government has just opened the site for the 1940 Census Results. If you locate the house your family lived in, it will show you the actual questionnaire results they submitted.

Very interesting stuff. The site is new and is getting a lot of traffic, so it is slow going. We managed to locate my DH's parents-he was born in 1943 but his parents were married in 1939. As with many immigrants, his parents lived in one home, their sister lived next door, a brother down the street, and the In-Laws across the street. Turns out we saw the first husband of his aunt listed, no one ever spoke of him before.

Give it a try, and be patient or wait a week or so till the traffic is less. It is worth the effort
